That was a great win against Tampa Bay! Hopefully Miami can do the
same thing in the regular season match, because my Buccs/Phins
tickets just came in the mail today :o) I'll be flying down from
Delaware to Tampa to see my first ever NFL game... so LETS GO
DOLPHINS!

NFL fans unite!!! I am a KC Chief's season ticket holder, and figured
that Dolphin fans love their team as much or more than the folks here
in KC... so I thought I would pass this along.

If you are fed up w/ the NFL charging full price for preseason
tickets, make your voice heard! I love the Chiefs and have been a
season ticket holder since 1989. However, the NFL is taking advantage
of it's loyal fans, by charging full price for season tickets, for
what is essentially a glorified practice, for players that most likely
won't make the team! Follow the link below, to an online petition,
addressed to the NFL asking them to revise their ticket policy. I
know we all would be willing to pay more for play off tickets and even
more on top of that for Super Bowl tickets (hopefully this year!), but
I think we all feel cheated when we are forced to pay $65 bucks for a
game that doesn't count. If you agree with the petition, sign up and
forward to other great NFL fans!

August 29, 2005

Through combined efforts of the Miami Dolphins, WFOR-TV and DHL, the
Dolphins preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons this Thursday at
Dolphins Stadium has been declared a sellout. As a result, WFOR-TV
(CBS4) will televise the game live in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area
starting at 7:30 p.m. The game also will be carried live in West Palm
Beach on WTVX-TV (Channel 34) and in Naples/Ft. Myers on WTVK-TV
(Channel 6).

Fans wishing to attend the game can still purchase tickets through
season ticket packages. A limited number of individual tickets are
also available following returns from the Falcons' team allotment.

Included in the sellout crowd will be large groups from two local
community partnerships. One will be a contingent of South Florida
youth in the "Readers for Leaders" program, in conjunction with CBS4
and TVX34. This program is a broad-based, year-round initiative that
provides incentive for children to read. Tickets will also be
distributed to local youth football and cheerleading participants as
part of the NFL's "Play Football Month," which kicked off with games
of August 25 and runs through the month of September. As part of this
month-long celebration, the Dolphins will host a Flag Football Day at
the Falcons game. At halftime of the contest, four teams from the
Dolphins' summer flag camps will take part in two simultaneous games.

The Miami Dolphins today acquired tight end John Owens and a
conditional 2006 draft choice from Chicago in exchange for linebacker
Brendon Ayanbadejo. Also on Monday, the Dolphins released guard Frank
Middleton, who had been signed as a free agent on August 3.

Owens originally was a fifth-round draft choice of Detroit in 2002,
and played in 15 games, including eight starts, during his rookie
campaign. He caught five passes for 49 yards that year. He was waived
by the Lions on October 23, 2004 and then claimed by the Bears.
Overall in his three NFL seasons, the 6-3, 255-pound Notre Dame
product has appeared in 24 contests, starting nine of them. He has
totaled five receptions for 49 yards. In four preseason games with the
Bears this year, he caught one pass for 12 yards.

Owens, 25, was a four-year letterman at Notre Dame (1998-2001), where
he played both tight end and defensive end. A Washington, D.C. native,
Owens attended DeMatha High School in Hyatsville, Md., where he
lettered in football and basketball. He was born on January 10, 1980.

Actually a basic foundation of Democracy is that the average Citizen is not
presumed to be a psychopathic killer. Presumption of Innocence?

I guess you and the NFL agree that all the people who are crazy enough to pay
$75.+ per ticket, $20. for parking, and another $50.+ for food are inherently
capable of murder and should be searched. I agree that anyone that pays all that
money to see a football game in person in 90+ degree heat is CRAZY.

I have to be honest and say that I have not been to a game in about five years.
The last time I went sodas were $3.50 each, a hot dog was $3.50, and nachos were
$3.50. I think the cheapest thing I bought was a stale pretzel which was $2.50.
Just a few light snacks/sodas for the family was about $30. Add the crappy
seats, the mind-numbing heat, the drunken fans, the obnoxious stadium seating
guy that asked to see the tickets every time someone went to the bathroom or to
buy food, plus $30. for a T-Shirt, $25. for a cap, and I have not wanted to go
again. Plus Marino retired.

So I guess if the fans want to pay hundreds of dollars to a football team to see
a game and get treated like potential criminals, why not? After all, we should
strip away every Americans' dignity and rights because there might be someone
who might do something bad. That is what the founders of the U.S.A. envisioned
when they drafted the Bill of Rights.

Of course, tons of boxes full of supplies and equiptment are driven into the
stadium every day, and any single box could have explosives, guns, etc. Shaking
down the ticket-buying customer is not going to stop anyone who really wants to
commit a crime.

ahh so now the truth comes out. they're all criminals and dumbasses but for
the grace of the million dollars they make. The reason they make millions is
because their talents are in high demand BECAUSE people glorify them so
much. Economics at work.
Look - before 9/11 no one ever flew planes into buildings either. Are you
going to wait for the tragedy to happen before you take steps to prevent it?
Again - these people are in it for the money. If someone brings in a gun and
shoots someone at a game, it's going to mean a loss of money from people not
wanting to go back to somewhere unsafe. Again - there's an economic demand
for the product so they can do whatever they need to - people will still buy
- that is - until someone starts shooting up the place. It's the same
concept behind Disney forcing cable companies that want ESPN to also take
ESPN2 and ABC Family and all the other Disney channels - and force them to
put the channel under 50 on the dial. It's the same concept behind forcing
you to buy the UM-West Texas Tech game if you want to see the UM-FSU game.
It's the same concept behind the stadium forbidding you to bring in food,
then charging you $2.50 for a watered down coke and $3.00 for a hot dog.

When was the last shooting inside an NFL Football Game? If you are going to use
"what might happen" as an excuse to search everybody all the time and eliminate
personal privacy, we might as well all check into prisons.

Are you aware that a Police Officer does not have the right toyou unless you are
being arrested? Yet you would give a Corporation the right to search you so in
exchange for the right to buy their tickets and sit in their stadium and buy
their food and beer, T-Shirts, Programs, and otherwise support them? What is the
upside of that deal?

In the United States the kind of intrusions that are common now are totally
alien to what the Founding Fathers wanted for this country. In those days,
everyone had weapons, and most people carried them around. People took risks
every day, and they had the nads to carry on without eliminating the Bill of
Rights.

In the 1800s it was common for men (and some women) to walk the streets with a
sidearm on their gunbelt. I wonder how many Baseball Games ended in gunfights in
the 1800s?? Not a single one that I have ever read of.

If going to a Football Game means that somebody is going to be putting his hands
in my pockets and pulling out my spare change, paper-clips,etc. I will not
attend any of those events.

I really think that people need to walk away from Pro-Sports instead of
continuing to glorify the importance of games and athletes. I would never give
up my right to privacy for the right to see some hoodlums playing a game. Most
of the people in Pro Sports would be working at Wal-Mart or incarcerated in a
State Prison BUT FOR the millions that they get because they can run/jump/hit
faster/better than the average person. I don't mind you giving them your money;
but the rights that are guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution??? Seems like a bad
deal to me.

So to answer your question: I care about security. The Security of my Civil
Rights and the value of being a Citizen of the United States. I won't give that
up to enter the Corporate Empire of an NFL Stadium.

Subject: Coach Saban's "Day After" Press Conference Available On Dolphins Insider

August 28, 2005

Watch Dolphins Head Coach Nick Saban's "Day After" Press Conference
as the coach reviews yesterday's contest against the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers and previews this Thursday's preseason finale against the
Atlanta Falcons by clicking the Dolphins Insider button inside this
story. Dol-Fans can also watch Scott Linehan's and Hudson Houck's
press conferences as well as see exclusive highlights of Miami's 17-14
preseason win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

HEAD COACH NICK SABAN
(Opening remarks) – "About the game, we talked about some things that
we wanted to play with in this game. We wanted to improve as a team,
play with a little more toughness, be physical and try to create some
kind of identity. Even though we didn't play perfect ball, we
certainly played with some of those competitive characteristics. That
is not something to be satisfied with and relieved about, it is
something to see if we can do, longitudinally, over time with
consistency. Now that we have seen it, that is the standard and
something that we have to try to improve on over the long haul. We had
a lot of effort and toughness in this game that I think that is the
kind of identity that we want our team to create. We have shown an
ability to do it. Now we need to focus on having an ability to sustain
that.

"As I said last night, this was the first opportunity that most of
the starters had to come back and play in the second half. That was a
new experience for us, which we have to learn from because we thought
that the first drive in the third quarter was not, from an intensity
standpoint, what we wanted them to be. That is something that we
certainly want to work to improve on. There were some good things in
this game. A lot of the backup players played better in this game.
That was encouraging on both sides of the ball. I know that you are
interested in a lot of personnel issues, but I think those things are
the most important things that we need to build on right now as a team
and I think that we need to build on those things because we have a
lot of work to do and improving to continue to do. I think that
everybody needs to understand that.

"Offensive line wise, this is the best, I think, that we have played
in this preseason. We will probably continue to evaluate that
situation, but I think the way we started that game is the way we will
stay for now, but still create as many opportunities for competition
as we can, whether it is right tackle or left tackle. We were pleased
with the way the first group worked out there together. From a
quarterback standpoint, we are going to play the quarterback that
gives us the best chance to win. That is everybody's goal and all what
we want to do. I don't think that we were totally in sync. We have a
couple of dropped balls that probably hurt us. We missed a couple of
deep throws that could have been big plays that certainly can energize
a team in a lot of different ways. Those are plays that we want to
hit. The good news is, they were there to be made. That is something
to build on and work toward. I think A.J. (Feeley) did a good job when
he was in there. We are going to give him more opportunities to see
what he can do. I am not going to comment on and worry about who or
when the starter is because the bottom line is, like every Dolphins
fan, everybody that I know and everybody that works in this building,
wants to play the quarterback that is going to give us the best
opportunity to win. That is what we are going to try to do and work
toward.

"From a running back standpoint, Ronnie (Brown) got his first taste
of playing and did some very good things, from a blocking standpoint
and made a couple of nice runs. He got popped one time and fumbled.
This was probably Ricky's (Williams) best overall game out there, in
terms of him having some space to work in, not only as a runner, but a
couple of times as a receiver as well. We are going to work that
situation just like we have. Everybody knows what the circumstances
are in the future and I think the longer we can work this way, the
better off we may be long-term, in terms of the long season that we
have to go through.

"Defensively, Jason (Taylor) obviously, made some big plays in the
game. We were pretty much pleased with the way we played up front.
Tampa (Bay) really gives you a lot of shifting, motions, empty and
back to regular. I think we made maybe a few more mental errors in
coverage, but this was a really good experience for players to have to
go through, in terms of our preparation and I am sure that there will
be a lot that we will learn in our ability to recognize and work
together in some of those things.

"From an injury standpoint, we came out of this okay. I don't think
we have anybody that is significantly injured. Randy (McMichael) seems
to be ok. Jason Taylor is fine. We will do Zach (Thomas) day-to-day
and make a decision on what we do. We will probably have a discussion
with him about it as well, but I don't think that anybody else that
comes to mind, is of any significance. We may get a few guys back.
Alex Holmes and Jack Hunt might be able to play in this game including
(Matt) Walters, who have not played in some of the other games. That
is basically where we are."

On how it felt to coach his first home game) – "It was a good feeling
really. For having three straight games on the road, it felt good to
be at home. We have a beautiful stadium. The players were happy to be
playing at home. There's certainly a part of an identity that you want
to try and create, in terms of how you play at home. That's important.
It was good that we started to, at least, establish some of that at
home. It felt great to be here. As always, when you play at home the
first time, it's a new experience, too. Even though it should be home,
when it's the first time it doesn't necessarily quite feel that way,
but it didn't take long and it felt really good to be here and have
the fans on our side for a change."

(On the injuries to Matt Turk and Reggie Howard) – "We didn't get the
final report on Matt Turk's injury. He pulled a muscle, actually, not
even in pregame, but after we came back out. That will be something
that we will have to learn about tomorrow. Reggie (Howard) is fine."

(On the play of Donnie Jones) – "Donnie (Jones) has made some really
good punts in this preseason. At times he hasn't been as consistent as
we would like to have him at that position. That is something he
really needs to work on. He certainly has the talent, the leg and the
ability, but putting it all together when everything speeds up a
little bit is what he needs to be more consistent at. It's not what it
needs to be, but there is potential for that to come at some point in
time."

(On if the quarterback situation changes the standard of playing the
first string for a short time in the last preseason game) – "We
wouldn't like it to. We haven't totally decided exactly how we would
play this last game, but I think you are right probably in theory. The
starting group, this last game was their time to play the most that
they would play in preseason and this is not a game that we would go
into thinking that they would play a lot. Exactly how much that is, we
haven't determined yet."

(On how far along the secondary is, especially Lance Schulters) –
"I've been pleased with the improvement that we made in the secondary.
I don't feel like we have enough depth. Lance (Schulters) has
certainly made a lot of improvement. He is a veteran player that's
starting to feel more comfortable in the system. He did make a couple
of good plays in this game. We have competition at safety and I think
that's healthy and good, but I don't think any that warrants any
changes at this point."

(On if the offensive gameplan has changed at all without a
quarterback taking the bull by the horns) – "I don't think it really
has. Installing a new system sometimes you've got to Dick and Jane a
little bit. You have to have a starting point and try to build on it.
You've got to build on it as people are ready to build on it. That's
what we've tried to do. We're not disappointed in the progress that
we've made. Are we where we need to be? Probably not. I do think that
the quarterback position contributes to that, to some degree, because
as we learn and grow, in some cases, we have one instance at
quarterback where we have a guy that has a little bit more experience
in the system and it's affected him a little bit that maybe everybody
else hasn't caught up to that. In another case, we have a guy that's
learning and growing in the system and is getting more confident as he
goes. That's probably as much as I could assess relatively speaking to
the question."

(On if he is weighing the quarterback situation for the present or
the future) – "I don't like using analogies when it comes to this
position, but to some degree we try to be upfront and honest about how
we are managing this position and how we are trying to assess this
position. The one fact has remained, and there are circumstances that
contribute to this, and I've said it before, the guy that plays second
has played best. He doesn't always play against their first defense
and that has something to do with it, because the speed of the game
does change, but whatever the circumstance is that we need to continue
to develop both of these guys to get both of these guys to play as
well as they can play, I think will contribute long-term to giving us
the best opportunity to take advantage of whatever situation we face.
I don't think you have to look at this like it's an all-or-nothing.
It's not an all-or-nothing situation, I don't think. Until somebody
makes it an all-or-nothing situation, it's not, so the base philosophy
that we had in the beginning about both guys continuing to develop
being important long-term in the season is probably still the standard
that we are looking at, until somebody does the proverbial take the
bull by the horns and (gets it done). We're working as best as we can
as an offensive staff and as a team of people here to try and get
either or both guys to be able to get to that position. Both guys have
shown promise and played well at times and I'm sure both guys would
say to you that there were things that they wish they had done a
little better. Hopefully, over time we will just continue to build on
that consistency and get the kind of play at that position that we
need to have success and play winning football on offense. "

(On if he sees the possibility of seeing both quarterbacks play in
the same game) – "I don't want to speculate on that, but if that's
what it takes for us to have the best opportunity to win – if that's
the decision that we feel gives us the best opportunity to be
successful and have a chance to play winning football on offense
that's not something that we wouldn't consider doing."

(On if the next step for A.J. Feeley is to be more aggressive in
throwing the deep all) – "(A.J. Feeley) did a nice job on a couple of
balls. Maurice Mann could have caught the one that he caught, with a
little more experience he probably could have caught that one
inbounds. (Danny) Farmer did a fantastic job of catching the one that
he caught and staying inbounds and we missed a couple of others.
Donald Lee could have caught one down the middle as a tight end and we
had a couple of other opportunities to make big plays that we didn't
hit on. Those are things that you want to be able to take advantage
of, but A.J. has made some steps toward making some of those plays,
which are real positive."

(On Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams playing in the same backfield) –
"We really didn't have a lot of stuff that we could do with them in
there, but it's something that certainly has a lot of promise for us
with two guys that have the ability that both of those guys have. You
put your playmakers on the field in whatever way that you can. It's
always a good strategy that you try to develop and that's certainly
one that we'll try to develop. As I have said before, it's going to be
a little more difficult to develop, because of the circumstance that
we are in here."

(On if he is worried the offensive line will only play well after
they are criticized by the media) – "You are making the assumption
that the criticism that they took is what motivated them. I talked to
them, I'd like to think the meeting I had with them had something to
do with it. Coach Hudson (Houck) talked to them, I'd like to think
what he said to them had something to do with it, but you guys can
take all the credit for it. I really do believe that there was some
improvement made. I'll be honest with you, Randy McMichael, it was the
best he's blocked and the best he's played this preseason, which
contributed largely, based on the defense they play, to our
effectiveness running the ball, as well. He should also receive credit
for the very good job he did, in terms of the way he blocked and the
aggressiveness he played in this game. It certainly contributed, in a
very positive way, to the running game. That's not to minimize the
fact that I thought we played better in the offensive line, but the
challenge to the offensive line that was given early on was – if we
are going to get better on offense we are going to have to have
balance and that balance is going to start with our ability to control
the line of scrimmage, whether we want to throw it or run it. They
have responded to that."

(On the improved play of David Boston) – "David (Boston) has done a
nice job of getting his confidence back and feeling good about the
progress that he has made and getting the swagger and swank back, in
terms of how he is capable of playing and how he can play. It's
amazing to me sometimes how guys can forget who they are and what they
are capable of and that they need to have a little success to be able
to bring that back and that's certainly something that has happened
during this camp for him, because he has had a very good camp. He has
made plays in just about every game that we've played when he's had an
opportunity to do it. He did a nice job in this game, as well."

(On how much the running backs and wide receivers can help raise the
level of play of the quarterbacks) – "What everybody has to understand
is that consistency and execution of all the positions on offense
helps the quarterback play better. Your ability to run the ball
effectively makes the play action a little easier. You misdirect the
defense a little bit, sometimes makes it a little bit easier. Having
the balance that keeps you out of third down and long, makes it a
little bit easier, so there are a lot of circumstances relative to
execution and consistency that can minimize the number of plays that
everything falls squarely on the quarterback's ability to make a play.
That's the important part of what we need to continue to develop as an
offensive team. We have enough skill players, as you put it, to be
able to do that if we can create that balance, which will probably
start up front."

(On Chris Chambers) – "(Chris Chambers) has had a very good camp. He
had a couple of drops in this game, which is very uncharacteristic of
Chris, but I still felt he did a lot of good things in this game. He
has great concentration. He's got speed and ability and he certainly
has got the right stuff from a competitive characteristic standpoint
to continue to develop into one of the upper-echelon receivers in this
league."

(On if he has decided on a rotation of the running back corps in
preparation for Ricky Williams's four –game suspension) – "You want me
to give you the speech that I gave the players about focusing in the
precious present moment, like on the next play. I am worried about
going upstairs and working out the practice schedules for tomorrow,
talking about personnel and all of that kind of stuff. Now we want a
rotation for game four. My wife wants to know what we are going to do
for the bye week. You try to have a plan and anticipate what can
happen and certainly, we are going to be faced with the situation that
we fully anticipate. As we let the players develop through this
preseason that will certainly help us be able to determine the best
way to manage that when the time comes. I don't think that process is
complete. Ronnie Brown playing more and more and more, will help us to
determine how we do that, but I think to speculate on that right now
would be very premature. With those hypothetical questions, I try to
focus on the ones that we have to answer right now."

(On if Ronnie Brown will get more carries versus Atlanta) – "I think
that he needs to play some. I really do. With only one exhibition game
under his belt and he probably – and I didn't look at the sheet –
played somewhere in the 25-play neighborhood. He probably needs to
play a little bit more in this game. The plan of not playing him in
his first game was with the idea that he would play in two games, in
terms of his preparation for the season."

(On when evaluating quarterbacks, how he accounts for when wide
receivers dropping balls) – "My dad was my coach and he was tough.
When I played quarterback for him, what he said to me was, `if they
don't catch it, you didn't throw it good enough.' That is the other
side of the rainbow and what I had to grow up with and how I kind of
view it. I think you have to be objective, in that everyone has to
execute for us. The quarterback does not execute for everybody else,
everybody else has to execute together so that we all have success. It
is no different than if you are wide open and the guy sails it ten
feet over your head, you can't say, `receiver, you ran a bad route.'
It takes a certain amount of precision from everybody's standpoint to
execute to have the kind of success that you want to have. If you
throw the ball well and it should have been caught, that can't be the
quarterback's responsibility because part of what we want, whether it
is receiver, running back, tight end or whomever, is for them to have
consistency in their ability as well. I think that is difficult to
look at this without looking at the whole picture of what creates some
of the deals. That is the big problem with looking at statistics.
Sometimes, those stats are not true, relative to the competition, how
many drops you had, quarterback not getting the kind of protection he
needs so he is being flushed and running around. There are a lot of
things that, sometimes, you get completions that the ball should not
have been thrown in that place and if you did it on a consistent
basis, you would be really creating more problems for yourself even
though you got away from it that one time. There are a lot of factors
that go into it, in terms of the kind of execution that you really
need to get from the entire unit to have success. I think the kind of
offense that we want to have here is one that has balance, that
doesn't put the burden on one particular position to make it work.
That means that it has to be everyone's responsibility to make it work
for each other."

OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR SCOTT LINEHAN
(On if he is concerned by the fact that the quarterback who has
played second this preseason has played best) – "I'm not real
concerned about it at this point. I think our focus has been on how
the unit has done. The thing I was most happy with yesterday was how
we came out and started the game. Being an offensive coordinator, we
needed to come out with a little more execution-oriented play, and I
was very pleased with how our group played at the start of the game.
With the quarterback position, I'm one of those guys who goes back -
because I played the position and coached it for a good majority of
the last 16 years - I think the timing of a new environment and a new
system is going to affect whoever is playing the position. Getting in
there and getting that timing down, regardless of who's in there, is
not an overnight process. I really believe that we're really this
close to being there. If you look at a couple of the plays we missed
yesterday, and you just say, `Man, if we were just six inches to the
left, or we missed a couple that had a chance.' If you really look at
it, we were this close to really breaking out of that game last night
and feeling really positive about everything. I feel really good about
the direction we took as an offensive unit yesterday, especially in
the opening drive."

(On the fact that there were a couple of throws that Gus Frerotte
seemed to unleash) – "He wanted to show off his arm and see how far he
could throw it (said kiddingly). He missed a couple of things. I think
he sped things up a little bit. He was close on a couple. That's going
to happen in the course of a game. I was really happy with the way he
managed a couple of plays where he had to throw the ball away. If you
get caught up in quarterback ratings and things like that, those
certainly don't help, but it's still winning football. I think other
than the throw that was intercepted; he really didn't make a bad
decision. To me, that's how we're evaluating the quarterback position.
I was really pleased with the way A.J. (Feeley) came in and performed.
I've been really pleased in the last two weeks with his progress. I'm
happy with where we're at. That's why we have preseason games. It's
getting to the point where we have to bear down and get better at some
execution things. After last week, to come back this week and play
better in a lot of areas, it was a good step for us."

(On A.J. Feeley not appearing to be as aggressive in throwing the
deep ball) –"I don't know. I think he's doing what we're asking him to
do. It's a new system for him. Like I said, it's not an overnight
process for anybody. Whether Gus played for us at Minnesota and A.J.
was playing here at Miami last year that really is irrelevant because
this is whole new group and a whole new coaching staff. We're all
trying to get it all down. Over time it gets better. You go through
some of the growing pains, whether you're used to it being a certain
way and now you're doing it just a little bit different. That takes
time. Our guys have all bought into that. Like I said, and I can't say
it enough times, how pleased I was with the way we started off the
game. Two of our goals we wanted to accomplish yesterday was; we
wanted to start fast and the second one was we wanted to finish
strong. We didn't execute some things in the middle of the game, but
we finished strong by scoring on two scoring drives in the fourth
quarter. I think our players really addressed that and embraced that."

(On if he's the type of coach who likes one starting quarterback, or
would be willing to play with two in any one game) – "I've never done
the two quarterback system before, but I'm not opposed to anything
that's going to help us win. Whether we do anything like that, that
would be Coach's (Saban) decision. My focus is on just getting our
offense consistent enough to win week in and week out. We've got one
more preseason game, that's our focus and then we'll zero in on that
opener. My preference is do it whichever way is best for us to win.
And that's how we'll do it."

(On how the stats seem to indicate that A.J. has progressed and Gus
regressed) – "I don't think he's regressed. I don't think he's playing
as good as he would say he can play, as far as statistical numbers and
things like that. But the decisions that he's making and how he's
managing the game have been exactly on par with where we want him. And
the same goes with A.J., Sage (Rosenfels) and Brock (Berlin). Like I
said, statistics are important, but the stats within the stats are
what's most important. I think you can read into that too much. If you
read into it, just based solely on the stats, then there would be guys
in this league beating out starting quarterbacks just because they've
got a higher rating. It's all based on the decisions they make and
vantage in the game. I think we're right on par with it. We've
certainly got a long way to go, and we've got to improve on it. I
don't put a lot into them until it gets to the point where you're plus
plays versus your negative plays, when you get into the game. If we
were going into a game and we were having twice as many negative plays
to our plus plays, then we would have an issue. We're just not there
yet with our timing, and I think it's just a matter of believing in
what we're doing and sticking with it."

(On his comfort level with having Ronnie Brown as his primary ball
carrier through the first four games of the season) – "I felt like
Ronnie, other than the on fumble, came out and showed a lot of real
positive things. The guy really made some nice runs. He ran
aggressively. He made a nice block after a catch when we were coming
out, on Chris' (Chambers) catch coming out of the end zone, he went
down and had a nice clean-up block. He really showed to me that he's
mature beyond his years. He had a couple of really good pickups in
blitz, which rookies a lot of times miss that. I'm very comfortable
with him, along with the other guys who have been playing for us.
Obviously youth gives you a little bit of a concern, because they
don't have the experience you'd like, but it's the cards we're dealt.
I was pretty pleased with his first performance."

(On when he looks at the skill position players he has and if he
thinks they are an above-average group and if they can pick up the
play of the quarterback spot) - "I wouldn't compare them to anybody. I
think we've got an excellent group of skilled players. I think we've
got what it takes to get it done at the National Football League
level. I've been with one other team (Minnesota) and I feel like this
compares very favorably to that. We've just got to gel as a team and
as a unit and kind of put it together and put our best 11 on the field
and go from there. That's what you start to do when you pare down the
team and get ready for your 53-man roster, just to basically put those
guys together and then you go and try to put the best groups together.
We have some interesting personnel groupings we can play around with.
I'm excited about it. I think you saw it a couple of times. We had
both Ricky (Williams) and Ronnie (Brown) on the field yesterday.
Obviously that's going to be something we'll be looking into more as
well as some other things we're going to be doing."

(On if Gus Frerotte went to the right spot on a completion to Chris
Chambers that was first tipped) – "We talk about hitches in their
drop; it was probably one hitch too late. They had a run a zone
pressure and they played a three-deep zone. He went to the right
place. He threw it in the right spot, he threw it high, but in that
situation normally if you throw it on one hitch it's a timing route.
It's usually a close play, tight play, but he went to the right place
all the way. It was a three-deep zone. He moved a little bit in the
pocket, they brought some pressure from the weakside and he had to
move to his right a little bit. It might have been a tad late, but he
threw it nice and high where it was actually a heck of a catch. The
guy played for it. Had he thrown it low, it could have easily been
intercepted. It was actually a pretty good throw considering it was a
tad late."

(On the progress of the offensive line) – "That's the toughest group
to gel because you're toying around with different groups and playing
different combinations. I've got all the respect in the world for
Coach (Hudson) Houck. He does a great job with putting units together,
and has done it everywhere he's been. I really was happy with the way
that they performed. We went against a team that really came after us
last week in the Pittsburgh game. We didn't play very well, obviously,
offensively. But we came out this week, ran the ball better and kept
the quarterback clean against one of those defenses that scares you. I
thought they did an excellent job of accepting the challenge, coming
out and really playing well as a group. And there were a couple of
changes in there. You get concerned with that a little bit, but they
performed very well."

(On the fact that he called five deep balls in the first half and if
that's typical of what he likes to do) – "I think I've told you guys
this before, but there's always going to be a deep shot in our
progression. If they give us the proper coverage and it's the proper
situation, obviously we'll take it. The problem with that is at times
if you don't hit a couple of them, the tendency is to get frustrated.
But I think there is always a positive with always stretching the
field, vertically. That's part of our offense. We're always trying to
create explosive plays. If you just keep plugging away and you keep
believing in the system, you start hitting on a couple of those and
it's a whole different story."

OFFENSIVE LINE COACH HUDSON HOUCK
(On the improved play of the offensive line) – "They're coming along.
It takes quite a while to develop guys and change habits that they
have had previously. We have some new guys that we're working in and
we've got guys working in different positions. We have guys that were
on the right side now on the left side and guys on the left side that
were on the right side. We moved guards to center and centers back to
guard. That is all a process in trying to figure out how they react.
Is there a better position that they can play other than the one that
they were playing when we first got here? How teachable are they? How
well do they adapt to change? All those things are something that will
help us in the long run, even if we went into the game with three
tackles, for example, or it could be three guards, we want a guy ready
to the right side as well as playing the left side. This helps us, I
think, in the long run."

(On if developing players for the long run sacrifices short term
success) – "I think so. This is a growing process. We're not
evaluating them right now on what they are going to be. We are trying
to figure out what they can be and then go from there."

(On if he thought the offensive line played better together against
Tampa Bay) – "I think they played well together and I think the
intensity they played with was a lot better this week. I think that if
you eliminate any uncertainty in what their assignment is, what their
job is, what their technique is, then they can play with more
intensity. That is what we are trying to right now, to eliminate
uncertainty. That's what teaching is. That is what coaching is."

(On if Stockar McDougle has a problem) – "I don't know if there is a
problem that we've identified, I think just doing what we want him to
do and the way we want him to do it, I think that just takes time to
learn with anybody. From a technique standpoint, there are some things
that we would like to have done, but he's getting better. He's
improving everyday. It's not that he is falling backwards, really. He
is improving everyday and he's a believer in what we are doing, which
I think is important."

(On how close Frank Middleton is to getting an opportunity to play) –
"We'll see. That's kind of still up in the air"

(On if the offensive linemen being quiet people affects their play) –
"They need to play fast and hard and know what to do, whether or not
they are quiet guys. Jeno James for example is a very quiet guy, but
he plays extremely well. He's plays hard and plays every play,
finishes every play. Guys are going to have different makeups,
different personalities. They only thing that we really care about is
how they execute it on the football field."

(On what identity he and Coach Saban would like the offensive line to
have) – "The identity for the offensive line is the same [Coach Saban]
is trying to establish for this football team. We really are on the
same page on that issue, and that is teams that play with intensity
are teams that are going to finish every single block, an o-line that
is going to finish every single block and be efficient in doing it.
What to do, how to do it, and play it in full speed. That is pretty
much what he wants out of this football team. That's what I'm
accustomed to wherever I've been in the past, so that's why I think I
fit pretty well into the philosophy of our head coach."

(On how long it will take for the offensive line to establish an
identity) – "I think we established a little bit this week. We ran the
ball better and we pass protected better and I think we finished some
blocks better, but this is going to be an ongoing process. I would
guess in game 16 we are going to be playing a lot better than in game
10, hopefully. That's our goal. I think it's a process that you keep
ongoing. I don't think we are going to have it all done by game 16.
Maybe next year is when really start playing a lot better. It takes a
long time to develop or to change attitude. It takes time to do that.
My wife didn't think I could make the bed for a long time, or I always
left my socks out or a wet towel on the bed after taking a shower,
well it took a long time before I learned how not to do that."

(On if change in technique or attitude is the reason for the
offensive line's improved play) – "That's really hard to say. I think
it's a combination of all of them together. As soon as they see what
you are teaching and how you are teaching helps them, that attitude
changes as well. What came first, the chicken or the egg? I think it's
a combination of both."

(On his coaching offensive lines that have blocked for good running
backs) – "Fortunately, because it's made me a better coach. We happen
to have two very good ones here. I am very pleased with both of the
guys, and of course all of our guys, but everyone is focusing on the
fellow we drafted, Ronnie (Brown), and Ricky (Williams). They're
classy individuals and they are guys that are tough football players
that like playing the game. I think that's important. You have to like
playing the game and they certainly do."

(On Brown and Williams) – "We have talked so much about attitude. I
think that attitude is liking to play the game. The confidence that
both of those guys have, they know that they are good football players
and they play like it."

Nobody's biting on that deal. Maybe toss in Farmer and pay part of Feeley's
salary and somebody might toss the Fins a late 3rd round pick for those three
scrubs.

Yeah, I guess considering that all bags are already searched, anyone can just
walk into the stadium with their Hunting Rifle and nobody will notice. The same
Security guys that force people to throw out their non-stadium beers, sodas, and
sandwiches will let in people with weapons.

Anyhow, if you think that having some minimum-wage dude fingering your nutsack
is going to keep you safer at a Football Game, then more power to you. Enjoy.

Houck did the same to San Diego. They were a bunch of scrubs.

Look for Middleton to have some impact once he gets into shape. He's a nasty
guy, ass opposed to the guys we usually have. We haven't had nasty since the
Kevin brothers.

What a crock of BS! That is strictly for the protection of the multi-millionaire
players that the NFL is worried about.

Obviously in the stands nobody can stop hand-to-hand violence unless they plan
on putting armed guards next to every row. Pretty soon the fans will have to get
raped at the ticket window and then fingered at the entrance to the stadium too!

I really think that Pro-Sports needs the fans to walk away just so the Owners
and the Athletes and their Agents all come back down to earth.

Subject: Dolphins-Buccaneers Features An All-Auburn Showdown: Brown vs. Williams
manayunk770

August 27, 2005

MIAMI (AP) - The next 10 years or so will determine whether the Miami
Dolphins or Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted the best Auburn running back
in April. Tonight's exhibition game will offer only a hint.

Cadillac Williams is expected to carry eight to 10 times for Tampa
Bay. Ronnie Brown may be called upon even less than that in his first
game with Miami. Still, the two backs will wage the sort of friendly
competition staged while they divided playing time in the Auburn
backfield.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he called me and put some kind of wager
out there,'' Brown said.

"It will be different," Williams said. "I played with him for four
years. But I'm happy for him and I'm sure he's happy for me. Now, it's
time to lock up.''

Williams was the more productive of the two at Auburn, rushing for
3,831 yards and 45 touchdowns. But Brown was more versatile and was
taken second in the draft, while Williams went fifth.

They split carries without acrimony for the Tigers, leading them to a
13-0 record last season.

"It was a blessing for me to play with a guy like that,'' Williams
said. "In most situations like that, things usually don't work out.
There's a lot of animosity. So thank God for playing with a guy like
that.''

The forecast called for a 60-percent chance of rain Saturday night at
hurricane-saturated Dolphins Stadium, where Williams and Brown will
share the same stage for the first time since the Sugar Bowl.

Williams signed a five-year contract worth up to $31 million before
the first training camp workout, and less than a week later he was No.
1 on the depth chart. In two games he has carried five times for 13 yards.

Brown held out during the first three weeks of camp before signing a
five-year deal for $34 million, including $20 million guaranteed. He
has missed all three Miami exhibition games and is listed with the
third team on the depth chart, but expectations remain high.

"The weight that everyone else kind of throws on me can't compare to
the way that I criticize myself and the things that I expect of
myself,'' he said.

As Brown did at Auburn, he'll share carries in Miami - this time with
2002 NFL rushing champion Ricky Williams. Although Brown has yet to
play a game, Williams already raves about the rookie.

"He's going to be really good,'' Williams said. "He's big, he's fast,
he's strong, and I think his best attribute is his mind is really sharp.''

New Miami coach Nick Saban said he may line up Williams and Brown in
the same backfield at times this season.

"I'd to have to play against it,'' Dolphins defensive end Jason
Taylor said. "That is two great running backs. They could do a lot of
things together. That would be scary.''

That won't be an option for the first four regular-season games,
which Williams must sit out for violating the NFL policy.
Returning from a one-year retirement, his first game will be Oct. 16 -
against Tampa Bay.

The stakes are more modest Saturday, although some players will be
battling for a starting job or roster spot in the next-to-last
exhibition game for both teams.

"We're going to try to see if the front-line players are front-line
players,'' Bucs coach Jon Gruden said. "We also want to look at the
depth of our roster to make sure that we take advantage of the last
evaluation for a lot of these guys. We're going to try to do it all in
this game."

Tampa Bay is 1-1. Miami is 0-3 and coming off an eight-turnover game
at Pittsburgh, which left the coaching staff in a more tense mood this
week.

"It has been a little edgy,'' Taylor said. "We are more focused and
realize that we have a lot of things that need to be corrected.''

Dolphins Stadium Along With The National Football League To Instate
Mandatory Pat-Downs

August 25, 2005

In order to further enhance fan safety and comfort, everyone entering
Dolphins Stadium during all Miami Dolphins home games will be subject
to hand searches beginning Saturday, August 27, 2005.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early at the stadium gates to help
facilitate this additional security measure. All fans entering
Dolphins Stadium will be subject to and should expect to be
patted-down by security personnel before going through stadium gates.

Pat-downs of fans entering NFL stadiums have taken place on a
frequent basis in recent years. Following discussions at a recent
league meeting, Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and the NFL clubs
determined that these hand searches should be a required element of
stadium security at all NFL games.

"This new requirement is not a result of any specific threat
information," said Commissioner Tagliabue. "It is in recognition of
the significant additional security that pat-downs offer, as well as
the favorable experience that our clubs and fans have had using
pat-downs as part of a comprehensive stadium security plan."

Several NFL teams successfully used pad-downs as part of stadium
security procedures last season. Hand searches of all fans entering
stadiums also were employed during all NFL playoff games last season.
Pat-downs at stadium gates have been part of the Super Bowl security
plan since 2002.

"First and foremost the safety and security of our fans remains at
the forefront of every event held at Dolphins Stadium," said Joe
Bailey, Chief Executive Officer for Dolphins Enterprises. "We embrace
the National Football Leagues' pat-down mandate and encourage fans to
arrive early, enjoy the many pre-game activities in SportsTown, along
with the best tail-gaiting experience in the NFL."

Stadium management encourages fans to arrive early to avoid long
lines and to avoid missing the 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Stadium gates open two hours prior to kick-off. Express lanes for
guests without items to be checked will be available at gates B, D, F
and H. Individuals conducting pat-downs will do so on a gender
specific basis. In addition, family lanes will be in place to
accommodate guests attending the game with children. Stadium
management asks that all guests remain patient and cooperate with the
pat-down procedures.

Parking
RV and early parking gates 2 and 5 open four hours prior to kick-off.
All remaining parking gates open three hours prior to kick-off. The
fee for the general parking lots is $20.00; RV, bus, and limousine
parking is $50.00.

Valet parking for Suite Holders will open three hours prior to game
time. Valet parking will be available at Gates C, and G. Disabled
parking is available at Stadium Gates A, C, E, and G.

We also encourage fans to check with their municipal transportation
departments for information on park and ride services to the game.

Fans are reminded of the following prohibited items:
bags, backpacks, plastic bottles with broken seals, glass bottles,
cans, thermoses, coolers, hard containers, whistles, horns, umbrellas,
laser pointers, strollers, brooms, poles, alcoholic-beverages, illegal
drugs, or any other item deemed dangerous or inappropriate.

Items allowed into Dolphins Stadium:
Fannie packs, baby bags, camera cases (ONLY those that conform to the
size of the camera, no lenses over eight inches); binocular cases
(ONLY those that conform to the size of the binoculars).

I'm really rooting for Feeley. I'd like to see him do well. I just see too
many 'who are you, Jake Plummer?' moments. I agree we'll again see a
variety of people behind center. Even the Bionic Man wouldn't make 16 games
behind what the line looks like to this point.

The Eagles need a running back with Buckhalter out for the year, again.
Westbrook is their biggest back at 5'10" and 205. The Dolphins have depth
there, and almost nowhere else. The Eagles are deep in general.

Maybe something could get done there.

Before someone says it, no they won't touch Ricky. But maybe, some help
elsewhere could come. The O-line would be a great start...

That is a carry-over idea from the Jimmy Johnson era. Get all the crappy scrubs
that are out there for cheap, and hope they are diamonds-in-the-rough.
Unfortunately last year all the scrubs were just plain SCRUBS. This year let's
hope they become better.

Gus Ferrote is not built for abuse, and after he gets sacked 20-30 times byto AJ
Feely and multiple interceptions.

The NFL, along with USA Football, has created "Play Football Month"
to create awareness for youth football programs throughout the United
States. Events for the month-long celebration kick off with the games
of August 25, and run through the month of September.

The Dolphins organization is joining the league-wide venture to
promote and pay tribute to youth football at this Saturday's game
against Tampa Bay at Dolphins Stadium. Players and coaches from
various youth leagues throughout South Florida have been invited to
attend both the Tampa Bay game and the Dolphins' preseason finale, on
September 1 against Atlanta at Dolphins Stadium.

As part of the tribute, at halftime of this Saturday night's game,
the 110-pound Northeast Rebels of Oakland Park will take on a team of
local mascots in a football game.

In addition, the Dolphins will host a Flag Football Day at their
preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons.
