Timmy always has one in the truck, which is probably the best place
for a lost and found!

Hope it dries out some tomorrow and remains dry for Sunday. Oh well,
at least the snow's gone.

Just another good example how stats and numbers don't always make
sense. Common sense would be great to apply here.

When the zone boundaries were created, I took the census data by county and
totaled it up various ways to try and get the four zones about the same size by
population and also have main routes be the dividing lines to keep it simple.
So our zone borders are county lines or main highways.

Just like congressional districts, we should probably check it every 10 years
or so. But I'm not sure we have any reason to suspect an imbalance in
population growth in the four zones since the late 90s when they were drawn up.

we had a request to get cp adams up on our website to help prepare for
the discraft spring open this weekend. although not entirely accurate,
it is up and ready for your viewing pleasure. we weren't entirely sure
on some of the alternate pin locations. some of the distances on the
signs at the course were worn off and unreadable, so a few distances
are missing. also, the basket on number 13 was completely out of the
ground so we're not even sure if it's in the right location. we did our
best with what we had. we will definitely be there this summer to get
more accurate data. enjoy!

Bill,
Since you live in the neighborhood, I would contact Jon Gurban,
Minneapolis Park Board Superintendent for additional information and
for a possible projected installation date if your curious to know
more about it? He can be reached at jgurban@...

Here's a little background information about Solomon Park I found on
the Minneapolis Park Board Website a while back. The Minneapolis
Park and Recreation Department is currently looking at relocating
the old Disc Golf Course Baskets from the Theodore Wirth Park to
Solomon Park in South Minneapolis. The city has been discussing
these plans for quite some time.

Bill Ashton

SOLOMON PARK

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is pleased to announce it
has a new park, and it is to be named "Edward C. Solomon Park" after
the late and much-loved commissioner. Festivities to name and
dedicate the new park took place August 20, 2004.
The new forty-acre park, bounded by Cedar Avenue on the east, 58th
Street on the north, 13th Avenue on the west and 60th Street on the
south, was acquired through a trade with the Metropolitan Airports
Commission. Located in the Fifth Park District, the newest addition
to Minneapolis's internationally renowned park system encompasses
open fields, wetlands, and hilly wooded areas.

Park Board Commissioner Solomon represented the Fifth Park District
from 1996 until his death in December 2002. In addition to serving
on and chairing various committees during his tenure, he was
President of the Board in 2000 and 2001. He also represented the
Board at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Youth Coordinating
Board, the John H. Stevens House Organization and the NRP Policy
board.

Long before becoming commissioner, Solomon was well known for his
dedication to the development and promotion of park programs and
services, serving fifteen years as the president of the McRae Park
Athletic Council. His first priority was young people and their
healthy development, so he was always involved on the front lines as
a coach. In his many years of coaching football, he used the game to
school his players in such life skills as teamwork, positive
attitude, and good sportsmanship. A community booster and well-known
presence in the McRae neighborhood, he was dubbed "Mayor of 48th and
Chicago."

Given Solomon's many years of dedication to parks, it is fitting
that a park be dedicated to his memory. The park dedication
celebrated Solomon's life. His wife Harriet Solomon, his son
Edward "Chuck" Solomon, Jr., and his daughter Dana Williams joined
in the celebration. In addition to a formal program, which will
included a ribbon cutting, the unveiling of the park sign, the
planting of a memorial tree, and speakers, park staff conducted
sports skills clinics for youth, and the McRae Park Jazz Workshop
provided musical entertainment.

That's so cool ! I move into the neighborhood earlier this month and
right away they built a new DG course just down the road. It's great
to have a course in Minneapolis - one of the parkiest cities I know.

Is it about the same size as Lake Cornelius(sic)?

So if there's ever a need for area players to be heard, I'll do what
I can.

apparently the course is supposed to be just east of mother lake.

And the park is located right next to both the 5-8 Club as well as Fat

We are not super close to that park, but ant MPLS park is better than none.
I sent a letter to the park board last fall encouraging them to put in a DG
course and gave my suggestions for parks. If I can help in any way please
let me know.

Solomon is indeed in South MPLS. It has been great to see the MPLS
Park Dept excited about DG disc golf again.
If you have ever been to the 5-8 Club (best burger in town) the park
is up against it. The whole park is being re-vamped, so it is a nine
holer for now, but we are talking with them about more.
Mike feel free to email me, we'd love to have another neighbor

South Mpls (I think). It is right off of 62 and just east of 35 W.
A few of us checked out the park about a month ago and it definitely
has potential. It is totally up to how much land the city wants to
use for the DG course. I think Steve Beckman would be the man to
talk to about this, maybe TG knows more about this as well.

The bring your own partner doubs will have to be limited. When I
announced that we will be doing it, we had 12 Intermediate signed up.
Now we have 30. So the doubs is not going to happen like it was first
announced. Please email TG if you have a partner would like to play.
Only a few have expressed interest. If it does happen, it will be when
round two starts for the INT. So 1 ish.

Look at that logger go!!! LSDGC has a good ring to it.

Bill,

How about taking the items that don't sell, marry them up with others,
and have a 'Majestic Garage Sale' with them? Of course the prices could
be a little extravagant, to boost the funds raised. I could even host it
at Fairway Flyerz after hours one day. ...just an idea.

Ideally yes, but I've all ready put quite a lot of time and
commitment to this project. That would take a bit more time to
manage. Plus Ebay takes a cut. The auction has been promoted for
the past two months, so players and other enthusiasts would be able
to mark the event on their calendars. The auction is open to anyone
to attend, so I'm hoping others will, not just the 72 entrants for
the day. There are some great items, so I'm hoping other club
members & disc collector types will check it out!

Believe it or not, we raised some good money just doing an informal
type auction with Lyle Jensen as M.C in the old days. My original
idea behind the auction on site at the DSO was to give it sort of a
Ebay feel to it! Only this way it's "Live" & "Interactive".

I'm hoping all items will sell. However, any unsold items will
either be returned to their original owner or if there's enough
unsold items making it worthy to host another auction, I was
planning to have a follow up auction at the North Valley Open. If
you can't make it to the auction on Sunday, I'd suggest finding
someone that would bid on the item your interested in for you.

Majestic Auction Coordinator
