When we were finishing up Tuesday night at NV someone from the house up on the
hill near #15's basket yelled down at us to "be quiet". It was about 9:45pm and
we were certainly guilty of making a bit of noise. Saddly, some folks in our
group let out a few more yells afterwards. I thought this was very foolish.
All it will take is one pissed off neighbor and our North Valley night golf fun
will disappear also.

I just wanted to remind everyone to be a little more respectful out there. I'd
hate for another good thing to go away.

No. You can clearly see it on the map. That will allow 2-3 temp holes over there if needed like we've done for the Majestic on occasion.

The IGH City Council approved the expansion of North Valley into South Valley Park on the other side of the tunnel. Work to upgrade North Valley has been underway already this fall with new tee pads on holes 1 & 2. But the Park Dept has wanted to improve much more and redesign some of the holes for better erosion control and flow.

One of their biggest issues was getting us off the hill as much as possible by the pump house. They recognized that Lobber's Leap (#12) has been around since the earliest NV layout and was a popular hole. In addition, they agreed NV shouldn't become any shorter than it was if they wanted it to be in the upper echelon of Twin Cities courses. So something had to give.

I was able to persuade them to consider adding holes in South Valley so we could maintain and in fact increase the course length several hundred feet back to what we had when the course used to go down to the other pond back in 2001 when we hosted Worlds (we won't be able to return to that area). They liked what they saw and we've been going thru the approval process which was finalized Monday night with the City Council.

I've put a draft of the proposed new layout in the Course Maps folder in the file section for those who might want to look. There's still some tweaking to do as we proceed with the upgrades. Holes 13-15 in South Valley will likely change somewhat because they want zero chance a throw will go over the fence into the Vet Property in the lower right corner of the map. BTW, there's space in South Valley for potential expansion of the course to 24 holes someday.

Since the course will be in both parks, we've proposed changing the course name to simply The Valley which is shown on the map. Without going into too many details here, you'll notice that holes 2 and 3 will be combined into a nice long hole almost 500 feet. This is partly to get the current blind #3 pin moved 40 or more feet shorter to avoid interference with the path that will eventually become asphalt right behind its current location.

Current hole 8 will disappear which eliminates the walk down and back up and those "goat paths" eroding the hill. The hole 8 pin will return to the alternate pin placement for the previous hole 7 as originally designed (hole 6 on the map). Although current holes 11 & 12 will go, they will be available as temp holes for events if the TD wants to use some version of them to add more holes.

Most of the work will be done and paid for by IGH although our slacker leaguers help and advice will be useful along the way and as more wood chips need to be spread here and there. I think the slackers lead by DPL can take some credit for being the year-round presence at The Valley that showed the city how important it was to revitalize The Valley.

Thanks for shedding some light on this TG.  Looks like "the guy" may have had good reason for taking action.  I've pretty much learned that confrontation with police never turns out too good.  :-)

Hello John,
I will chime in with info from the top as well. While at the Minnesota Park and Rec Conference last September, Sherry French, the Park director that you referenced, brought up the problems with the neighbors and you and your night golf buddies. 20 minutes of my presentation was wasted talking about friggin night golf issues at Sunnyside, all very negative which prolly scared away who knows how many park directors. I'm up there talking about all the positives that disc golf has to offer yet I had to answer questions about confrotations with police.

The neighbors asked you guys to stop. The police asked you guys to stop. You did not. If they did not post "the sign" and if you guys did not stop, THE COURSE WAS SLATED FOR REMOVAL, then the masses who play the course in DAYLIGHT are screwed out of fun little course. I applaud "the guy" for spearheding "the SIGN". The course is going to remain for the time being because "the guy" had the intervention. (TG is not "the guy" fyi).

Your "ultimate" idea, might be the dumbest thing I have ever read. Please have the greater disc golf community more in mind instead of just your night golf crew. If Ju JU and his night golf crew at Edina ever have issues with the neighbors, pretty sure he'll do the right thing and pull the plug. Especially if there is a risk of the COURSE GETTING PULLED.

John, you shouldn't have said anything until you are 100%...now fingers are going to be pointed around and good people are likely to get called on this and thrown under the bus. Instead of making ASSumptions, you should check your facts and confirm their identity first, then present the information to the MFA BOD before releasing it publicly.

And they say I stir the pot? Not to this level!

John, you shouldn't have said anything until you are 100%...now fingers are
going to be pointed around and good people are likely to get called on this and
thrown under the bus. Instead of making ASSumptions, you should check your
facts and confirm their identity first, then present the information to the MFA
BOD before releasing it publicly.

And they say I stir the pot? Not to this level!

I like the idea Spammy, but I respect Solbergs discretion in not doing so since he does not have 100% certainty of the identity of said rat.

In the mean time  lets blame it on Bush

Maybe that person would like to step forward and explain to everyone why they would do such a thing.

Was there some kind of safety issue?

There is still an evening Westside Wed league going on at Roseland in Edina, 6pm start.  Juju is LD

Well there is some bad news on the Westside.

The City of New Hope has posted a sign that states Sunny Side Disc Golf Course is closed at dusk.

The city did not come up with this idea, it was presented to them by someone on this group, a person that I thought was supportive of disc golf. I believe I know who, but I am not going to out him on this board.

So, If you currently play night golf at Sunnyside, find a new course, they don't want you there any more and will ticket you if you play in the dark.

I have spoken to the Park Director so my info comes from the very top and this WILL NOT BE REVIEWED for years!

So please, do not call to lobby for a change, in my opinion, this other person torpedoed us pretty good.

See you all at the fall meeting.

P.S. However, I am thinking of forming an Ultimate League (Glow of course) next fall. Since we would not be using the baskets, the area is flat and would make a great level playing field. And since it is not Disc Golf the city CANNOT even harass us and I made sure that the park is not closed, just the disc golf course for disc golf.

I found a disc buried under some leaves about 20 feet left of the pin on hole
#18 at North Valley on Tuesday around 1 p.m. If you can ID it (model/color)
you can have it.
