News - Spring 2007   Message List

Greetings!

Well, it must be spring, judging from the crazy weather.  With people hitting the trails once again, Medicine Wheel has lots of exciting news to report for 2007.

  • Red Rock Canyon Freeride/Skills Park - Opening May 12
We are pleased to announce that the structures and skills park area of Red Rock Canyon is now scheduled to officially open on Saturday, May 12.  Stay tuned for more information about that event

  • Bear Creek Park Singletrack - As previously reported, El Paso County Parks Department has asked Medicine Wheel to partner with them in the construction of a singletrack mountain bike/hiking trail just west of 21st street in Bear Creek Park.  Thanks to generous donations from Criterium Bike Shop, Pro Cycling Bike Shop, and TOSC, Medicine Wheel will be funding the design phase so that construction can begin in May, with completion estimated in mid-summer.

  • Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates, Inc. Granted Non-profit Status.  Yes, after 15 years, we finally made the leap and have been granted official non-profit status by the IRS.  Now that we are an official 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation, that means that donations to Medicine Wheel are now officially tax deductible.  So if you're feeling guilty about not working on the trails, whip out your check book and soothe that conscience.  Our official name is now Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates, Inc., but our friends just call us Medicine Wheel.
What can you do for the trails?  Here are some ideas:

  • Donate your time.  Medicine Wheel is currently looking for self-motivated volunteers to supervise trail maintenance in a specific park.  Ride a lot in Palmer Park?  Why not help maintain the trails there.  How about Ute Valley?  The trails there need you, too.  We'll provide the training & tools.

  • Donate some money.  We are looking at funding certain select trail or conservation projects, such as the Bear Creek trail, and we can always use donations.  Trail tools, web sites, & schwag all cost us something.

  • Advocate for Mountain Bikes. Medicine Wheel is looking for a mountain biker who is also committed to advocacy to serve on our board.  Interested?  Send me an email.
As always, thanks again for your support of Medicine Wheel and enjoy the great springtime riding.
