El Paso County Parks has been holding discussions about building several miles of new singletrack trail in Bear Creek Park, west of 21st Street. Phase 1 of this project will include about two miles of singletrack trail in the area to the southwest of the Dog Park, with an eventual connection to more singletrack to be built farther west, nearer the entrance to Bear Creek Canyon. For those of you not familiar with the area, the proposed trails, especially Phase 2, would connect well with Palmer Trail, Section 16, Gold Camp Road, etc.
These new trails are going to be designed with mountain bikes in mind, there will be interesting trail features, woops, rock gardens, etc. The hope is that the first section could be built by mid July!
ELPACO is also hoping to use the new trails for a regular, local mountain bike race series, possibly for kids or beginners.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT at a public meeting to discuss the trails. Please show up to help make mountain bikers' voices be heard.
