IMBA CO Action Alert
Write CO Roadless Task Force to Protect Trails
-- Easy Online Form Takes Just a Few Minutes
The Colorado Roadless Areas Review Task Force is conducting hearings around
the state to gather public input on how to protect the state's four million
acres of inventoried Roadless lands (areas free of development and roads).
This task force will help determine the future of Roadless areas in
Colorado. Based on public comment, the task force will make recommendations
to Governor Owens regarding how inventoried Roadless areas should be
protected and managed.
IMBA affiliated COPMOBA (Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association)
needs your help in making sure that mountain bike interests are represented
for this Friday's meeting (2-10) for the San Juan (Durango area), Pike
(Colorado Springs, Leadville, Salida, South Park areas) and San Isabel
(Canyon City/Pueblo areas) national forests. To learn more about these
forests and view maps visit:

What to write:
* Mountain bicyclists care about the land and want to see their trails
protected as Roadless areas - free of development, resource extraction and
roads. Roadless areas are the last unspoiled parts of Colorado's national
forests.
* Bike-friendly land protections will ensure outstanding backcountry
experiences, preserve our state's tourism economy and enhance our quality of
life.
* Wilderness protection, which bans bicycle access, is not an appropriate
designation for many of these areas.
* If you can, provide as much specific information as possible about the
affected areas that you ride, what they mean to you and how you value
protecting these natural places.
* For the Pike-San Isabel and San Juan national forests please protect The
following trails from development and allow for continued bike access: #
631, 621, 601, 653, 654, 200, 230, 234 and 421.
