Fwd: [tosc-list] Red Rock Canyon/Cheyenne Mountain State Park/Hikes   Message List

Group,
Please respect the fact that each of these areas needs to be appropriately prepared before they can open them to the public. Now is the time to join Medicine Wheel and IMBA in welcoming these new additions for future of public access in the Pikes Peak Region by being actively involved in their sustainable developments. But in the mean time, please refrain from using these areas until we get the go ahead from the land managers.

Stay tuned and Happy Trails in 2004!

Red Rock Canyon or Cheyenne Mountain State Park are NOT open to the
public yet.

Red Rock Canyon will be opened after trails are developed to allow
sustainable access to the open space. A public process on the master
plan for the open space will begin early this year.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park will be opened after the access road is
built and utilities are installed. This is expected in early fall.

PLEASE DO NOT RIDE YOUR BIKE, WALK, RUN, RIDE YOUR HORSE or anything
else in these properties until they are opened to the public! Such
use damages the resources until they are opened.

We have permission to conduct a series of hikes in Red Rock Canyon
once a month this year starting on January 17, 10:00 a.m. If you
would like to join us, call for a reservation at 633-6884. Other
hikes are: February 21, and March 20.

Periodic hikes(authorized and guided) in Cheyenne Mountain State Park
may also occur this year. We will let you know of dates.

We also have scheduled a series of other hikes: January 10 -
Cottonwood Creek, February 14 - Intemann Trail, March 13 - Aiken
Canyon. Join us on those hikes. Check our web site for details. No
reservations are required. No dogs are allowed on the hikes.

Thanks.

Dan Cleveland
Executive Director
