Greetings Fellow Riders,
Rich Dudley, the manager of Cheyenne Mountain State Park, contacted us recently with some serious concerns about people using the park. He has asked us to get the word out that Cheyenne Mountain State Park is now closed to all uses until it officially opens next year.
It appears that there was some confusion about the status of the park while the new trails were being built, and apparently the combination to the old lock became widely known. Well, the lock has been changed, new signs are about to go up, and Rich would like everyone to know that the park is (and always has been) closed to everyone except for people who have specific permission from him to be there.
Rich went on to say that the problem isn't limited to cyclists. There have been joggers, hikers, and even signs of horses on the property. But he did say that there are an awful lot of bike tracks.
The new projected opening date is early fall of 2004, which has been pushed back due to delays in getting the access road and utilities installed.
In the meantime, Medicine Wheel is exploring the idea with Rich of holding regularly scheduled rides and hikes, each of which would be guided and scheduled in advance. We will surely need volunteer guides for these tours, if and when they happen, and we'll let you know as things progress.
So please, let's not wear out our welcome in the park before it's even open.
Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays from Medicine Wheel.
ps. Feel free to forward this message on to other cyclists, hikers, runners, and equestrians.
