Nancy Brown sent this to her SPY swimmers last week.
Hi everyone, it is with a very sad heart that I tell you about Raymond Edelhoff. Raymond fell down his steps last Tuesday (Feb 3) and cracked his head open on the hard floor at the bottom of the steps. He was bleeding internally and there was nothing the doctors could do. Raymond passed away last night (Feb 8) at 6:30pm while in the hospital. Maureen, Mary's daughter, said he was not in pain. I do not know any details regarding a service but I will pass along the info when I get it.
Raymond was soon to be 96 yrs old (2/26th). He certainly has led a full life and will always be a role model for all of us who knew him. He touched the lives of so many people. Raymond joined our team in 1988 and up to this year, he has been USMS Top Ten All American every year and has also set many National records along the way. He loved to party, he loved to dance and play the piano, and loved to flirt with the girls. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face and obviously loved life. There is no question that Raymond was and always will be an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Everybody loved Raymond. I will miss my swim partner and my dancing partner, my very dear friend.
Attached are two photos from YMCA Nationals , one of Raymond in the water and one of Raymond with Patty DeVanny on deck. Also attached are recent stats and records from Raymond's swims. Please note that he set YMCA National Records in the 95-99 age group. He is missed. If anyone would like to post anything further about Raymond and his life, please do so to this list-serve or email me, loulamb@....
