They will face Max Mirnyi and Andy Ram for the title after the
Belarusian-Israeli duo saved five match points in a 4-6, 7-6(8), 10-6 comeback
win over Austrians Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer. Knowle and Melzer had five
chances to close out the match in the second set tie-break, up 6-2 and 7-8, but
failed to deliver.
Mirnyi and Ram were finalists two weeks ago in Indian Wells, where they held two
match points in the championship match before succumbing to Americans Mardy Fish
and Andy Ram. The duo made their partnership debut last October with Ramfs
regular partner, Jonathan Erlich, sidelined with an elbow injury and succeeded
in capturing the Vienna title.
A three-time winner in Miami, Mirnyi is attempting to join Todd Woodbridge and
Mark Woodforde as doubles titles leaders at the tournament. The Belarusian won
his first Sony Ericsson Open title in 2003 with Roger Federer, and teamed up
with Swede Jonas Bjorkman for back-to-back triumphs in 2005-06. Ram will be
playing in his first Miami final.
