Jamie Murray Splits With Mirnyi
Jamie Murray has revealed he and Belarussian Max Mirnyi have ended
their doubles partnership.
The pair teamed up at the start of the year but won just one ATP
title together at Delray Beach (d. Bryan-Bryan) in February and
suffered three first round exits at the four Grand Slam
championships. They had a 15-17 record on the season.
"We're looking for other partners," Murray told BBC 5 Live radio, on
the eve of Great Britain’s Davis Cup World Group play-off tie with
Austria at Wimbledon. "It's a shame because we worked hard to try to
make it work. It just didn't quite click."
Murray, who will play with Ross Hutchins this weekend, said the
partnership might become a more regular arrangement next season. "I
guess so," the 22-year-old Scot said. "We might play some tournaments
next year."
The 31-year-old Mirnyi has a 34-25 career record in doubles finals.
The Belarussian has won two US Open titles in 2000 (w/Hewitt) and
2002 (w/Bhupathi) and two at Roland Garros in 2005 and 2006 (both
times w/Bjorkman).
Last week, Murray returned to his home town to officially open
Dunblane’s new high school. The recent US Open mixed doubles runner-
up (w/Liezel Huber) was educated at the school with his younger
brother Andy.
Murray performed the opening ceremony along with his grandmother,
Shirley Erskine, and played tennis with some of the pupils.
The new school, which was the first to be completed as part of
Stirling Council's £100m Public Private Partnership programme,
features a new auditorium called Murray Hall after the Murray
brothers.
Murray said: "It's a nice change being back. I hadn't been back to
Scotland this year and I'd always planned to come back and see family
and then I got the opportunity to open the school. It's been great to
see what it's like and meet the pupils."
