The new website's address is
<a href=http://www.LAprepSoccer.com target=new>http://www.LAprepSoccer.com</a>
It has a message board, opinion polls, scores,
district standings, history (past playoff brackets, best
all time team list, best all time programs list, past
players now in college and the pros), an honors page for
all state and odp players, and a LOT more. There's
also a page for the girls! Be sure to check it out
often.
I have begun work on my much improved new
webpage. It is no where near to being completed, but when
it is, I have no doubt that it will be the best
Louisiana high school soccer page ever. It will have daily
scores, weekly scores, monthly scores, tournament scores,
my and the coaches' poll, district standings, a
message board, a long list of links to official high
school soccer sites and other pertinent sites, and a
history of Louisiana high school soccer, including all
past playoff brackets, a list of the top programs of
all-time, and the top teams of all-time. <br><br>To give
you an example of what it's like, visit it at

Coaches, I wanted to bring to your attention that
St. Louis Catholic is hosting its annual Louisiana
Showcase of Soccer tournament this coming December
(14,15). I hope that some of you will bring your teams to
this tournament. It already is a great tournament and
it could get even better. Such teams as Jesuit,
Brother Martin, St. Louis, Barbe, Hahnville, Pope John
Paul, St. Frederick, Sulphur, St. Thomas More, South
Lafourche, Monsignor Kelley (TX), Pace (FL), Cape Coral
(FL), Douglas (FL), and Niceville (FL) are already
signed up. This is the first time that four teams from
Florida have participated in a Louisiana high school
soccer tournament. It also has 2/3 of last year's state
champions (Brother Martin and St. Thomas More).<br><br>Sign
up today and help improve high school soccer in this
state by bringing together the best teams in Louisiana.
<br><br>For more information about the tournament and signing
up, go to
<a href=http://www.louisianashowcasesoccer.com/

not provided with the second team All-State
list for Division II. I am not sure, but I don't think
the coaches made one.

Polls done by Scott Crawford, not the
LHSSCA.<br><br>This poll was updated on 3/1/01. This poll, as well as
my others, is made by using playoff results,
records, strength of schedule, head-to-head results, the
LA Coaches' Poll, and past years' records. The first
number after the school's name designates which district
the team is and the Roman Numeral following the
number denotes what division (I,II, or III) the team is
in. The second number (in parenthesis) is the ranking
the team had in the 2/4/01 TOP 10 POLL (to view it,
press the "messages" button on the left side of the
page). The next set of numbers is the team's record. To
see the complete polls, which includes how each team
did in the playoffs, look for message #'s 572, 573,

html</a><br><br>Newman soccer coach Gerry Mueller has coached for 28
years, and he has seen some changes in the sport he
loves.<br><br>"Every season is different because you are dealing with
different players and kids," he said. "There are a lot more
skilled players than in the past. It is the same as far
as wanting to win and the effort given, but kids are
spending more time developing skills and have more
knowledge of what is going on."<br><br>Mueller has seen a
player with those additional skills and knowledge in
Dwayne Jones for three years.<br><br>Newman's Mueller
and Jones continue to make a mark in their sport,
including helping guide the school to this year's Division
III state title. And together they share honors
heading this year's the Times-Picayune All-Metro Boys
Soccer Team.<br><br>Jones, a junior forward who has
garnered such honors as the Gatorade Player of the Year in
Louisiana and is a Parade Magazine All-American, is the
metro area's Player of the Year. Mueller, who has a
317-49-16 career record and six state titles, is the Coach
of the Year. The team is selected by the staff of
The Times-Picayune.<br><br>Mueller and Jones have
known their share of honors, but each seemed to take
extra pride in this season's title.<br><br>"It was an
unique group this year," Mueller said. "They were not
very emotional. They knew what they had to do to win
and (they had) confidence they were
good."<br><br>Jones put it together as well. It was more than just
winning a second title in three years. He became a more
versatile player, one Mueller said was like a "coach on the
field" sometimes by scoring less (though he still had
more than 20 goals) but increasing his assist total.
More than anything for Jones, he was surrounded by
friends and talented players, like Chris Arnold, Peter
Ostroske, Blake Lindberg and Britton Chauvin.<br><br>"This
year we were so close as a team," said Jones, who
takes pride in his personal accomplishments but seems
to hit the edge of his seat talking about the team.
"We became really tight (as unit). Last year we were
not as close. I don't think last year we could've
done what we did this year."<br><br>. . . . . .
