Update - Something came up with the Iron Hill Race venue and we have moved the
date from May 23rd to Sunday June 6th. This opens up the schedule a little and
gives everyone a break after 3 weeks of races.
Series
Scoring - working on that now. We had hoped to start posting series results this
week but there are a lot of racers that have entered different or misspelled
last names or wrong DOB's when preregistering and they do not match
what was entered for series registration. So that has to be fixed first.
We
cannot score you properly if you do not enter your name and DOB the same as you
did when you registered for the series. See the below instruction for
setting up a BikeReg profile. That ensures your information is
correct. We will attempt to fix all wrong entries now but after
French Creek if you enter your name or DOB wrong we will not fix it.
You as MASS racers must bear the burden of entering your information correctly.
If
you are a series racer and forgot your plate at any of the last few races and
had to race with a day-of plate you need to e-mail us at support@... to let us know your series plate and
what race you did not have it for. Bottom line is don't forget your plate
- put it with your helmet or shoes or something very important like your bike.
3/28/10 -
Using BikeReg - just want to post a reminder on how to use BikeReg. Make
sure you setup a racer profile and use that profile to register for all the
races and the MASS registration. This helps us track your series
standings properly because it ensures that your first and last name are always
entered the same. It also assigns you a racer id when you create your
profile and we use that racer id for tracking series racers as well. If
you sign-up for the series and races without a profile and/or using different
names we will have errors and duplicates in the standings and you will have to
let us know so we can correct it. CREATE AND USE YOUR BIKEREG PROFILE
PLEASE
Rise and shine MASS racers and get over to BikeReg.
Cascade Classic pre-reg closes Thursday at 10PM. Make the
trip and check out this new addition to the MASS. We have worked hard to get
this race into the MASS because we have heard from racers what a great
addition it would be. Come out and try a new course and support a new MASS
race promoter. There is free camping Friday night and there are hotels in
nearby Williamsport. If you have not been up in the Williamsport area is very
scenic and worth the drive. Attendance will probably be less that some of our
bigger races so it is a great opportunity to get points. Don't forget your
series plate.
Series Scoring - Got all team roster assignments done and we are importing
race data in now. We are doing some testing and will let everyone know when
we are ready for review. Please don't e-mail us about series results yet. We
have not made any corrections for those that forgot a plate at a race. We
will do that after we get all races in the system.
AMERICA'S BEST TO
TAKE ON THE TRANS-SYLVANIA EPIC, AMERICA'S LONGEST
MOUNTAIN BIKE STAGE RACE
STATE COLLEGE - The Trans-Sylvania Epic, the longest mountain bike stage race
experience in the USA offering seven days in the mountain bike paradise that is
the Alleghenies region of Pennsylvania, is attracting the most competitive
field of endurance racers to yet assemble for an MTB stage race in North
America.
Mountain bike luminaries such as Cannondale Factory Racing's Jeremiah Bishop
and WTB's Mark Weir alongside PAValleys.com's National 24 Hour Solo Series
Champions Bradon Draugulis ('09) and Rob Lichtenwalner ('07/'08); perennial NUE
series contenders Christian Tanguay and Harlan Price from Team CF as well as
endurance race stalwart Evan Plews and top US Ruta finisher Alex Grant
(Cannondale) are some of the stars who will be battling it out daily with a
slate of regional stars and local legends for the right to wear the Pactimo TSE
Leader's Jersey. The women's entrants are just as powerful with multiple
time World 24 Champ, Rebecca Rusch (Specialized), women's 2009 Iron Cross
Champion Selene Yeager and her Team CF mates Nikki Thiemann and Kristin Gavin,
PAValleys.com's Carolyn Popovich and Karen Potter (MTBRaceNews.com) amongst
those ripping each other apart daily in pursuit of their own Pactimo leader's
jersey at the TSE.
TSE director Mike Kuhn noted, "The quality of the racers taking part in
our first year is fantastic; there hasn't been a field like this assembled for
a mountain bike race in the region in a long time." He added,
"It's not just elite racers. We have people coming because they see
Trans-Sylvania as a perfect mountain bike vacation or as an incredible
challenge. We can't wait to show mountain bike enthusiasts and racers
from across North America just how good the riding is in Pennsylvania as this
event unfolds."
"This is a great opportunity to meet and interact with some of the
nation's best racers," added director Ray Adams. "If you love
mountain biking you'll have a whole week to ride incredible trails and compare
notes with some of the finest riders around the bonfire each evening.
You're not going to find this anywhere else. It's especially true this
first year as we set the stage for what will become at least eastern North
America's don't miss mountain bike experience. Yes, seven days of great
trail riding in a row is not easy, but it is absolutely possible for a lot of
riders. What's more, the sense of accomplishment from riding seven back
to back days is beyond words. Everyone should - and can - experience
that."
When asked why he is choosing TSE over the multitude of of stage races out
there; CFRs Bishop replied, "It's about riding killer technical single
track. Some places have good scenery and some good trails but nothing is like
the raw rocks roots and deep forest of the east coast single track in PA.
Riding in the state college area is world class and with solid promotion back
round the race is sure to be well run and a lot of fun." He continued,
"TSE is going to be demanding, in fact its probably the longest stage race
in North America; but that is going to make for an incredible experience. If
the other trails are like what I have ridden, its going to rock!"
Specialized's three time Women's World 24 Hour Solo Champ Rebecca Rusch commented
on TSE, "I love mountain bike stage races because the offer the
opportunity to really see the riding an area has to offer. For me 7 days
in a row of hard racing is a perfect training block and sort of my own PA boot
camp. I have not ridden out East much and from what I hear, this place
offers some of the best single track in the world. The TSE jumped out at
me because of the reputation of the race directors, the chance to ride out East
and the time of year of the event." Her husband Greg Martin (Club
Ride Apparel), owner of two 24 Hr Solo Singlespeed World Titles added, "
I'm really looking forward to spending a full week riding some of the beautiful
trails that PA has to offer. Having grown up in Virginia and now living
out west, I really miss the technical trails that the east coast is famous for.
This is going to be a super fun race!"
WTB's legendary Mark Weir offered up a slightly different motivation for
attending,
"Last time I was in PA I got schooled by a bunch
of round face tough guys. This race looks like a great way to find some
redemption." Weir seems to have his eye on one competitor in
particular adding, "Harlan you and your 29”s of wheel better look
out. Had about enough of you buddy."
Based out of the expansive Seven Mountain Scout Camp near State College, PA,
the Trans-Sylvania Epic offers 7 days of spectacular trails in some of the most
remote riding in Pennsylvania through the spectacular Allegheny
mountains. Through the course of the 7 days the participants will explore
over 250 miles of mountain bike heaven and just scratch the surface of the
trails and paths in this part of PA. The event will challenge riders
physically and mentally but reward them with an experience they'll never
forget. Running May 30-June 5, 2010, more information about
Trans-Sylvania at www.TransSylvaniaEpic.com.
I have re-loaded all races with all plate corrections that I
have been given. Please take a look at your individual and team standings
and let me know if anything is incorrect. The enduro from Iron Hill has
not been loaded yet. Also, if you find you are off by a few points it is because
that points scale posted on the MASS website has a few finish places that are
off by a point or two. We have to fix that so it matches the scoring
system.
If you do find any errors please send me an e-mail with the following:
Race with error, Racer Name, Series Plate #, Class, Finish
Position, Team (if missing or incorrect)
Other important info:
Stoopid pre-reg closed Fri at 8PM.
Will send out a detailed e-mail about Marysville weekend
tomorrow.
Great day at the Stoopid 50 last Sunday. A huge
hats-off to Chris Scott and his Shenandoah Mountain Touring crew for a great
event. Loved the post-race food and beer. Results posted here.
Series standings are all updated including the Stoopid 50.
No MASS race this weekend so think about making the trip to
Harrisonburg for the Massanutten Ho-Ha. For endurance racers there is a
38 mile single-loop XXC Sunday morning and traditional XC races Sunday
afternoon. Also, get off the can and get registered for Marysville –
‘nuff said.
I think we are going to make a little change to the way we
were going to score MASS points for Marysville based on some feedback and
suggestions from many of you who want to come out Saturday but can’t make
the entire weekend.
So what we will do is score the Saturday solo/team enduro race
as one MASS race (XC or endurance based on what MASS class you select in the
registration system when you register for the enduro). We will also score
the entire 3 race stage race as another MASS race (again, XC or endurance based
on what you select). The stage race will still be scored with the NTT &
STXC races making up 25% each and the enduro making up 50% of the total stage
race score.
We are going to leave pre-reg open until 9PM tonight to give
everyone a little more time to get registered. If you have any questions please
e-mail me off-line.
John,
How would I register for saturday...by myself for XC points??? would that be 75.00 for that race???? Allen V.

Was in the Saturday race, so nothing of that...except sore legs. Thought about
doing a lap w/camera in pocket, stopping for some shots, but really....riding
was enough work. I forgot to really.

7/1/10 -
Thanks for all those that came to the Stage Race and Festival. It was hot
but as always Mike Kughdog put on another great event. Stage race results
are posted and we are working on the files to load in to the scoring
system. Some manual work to be done with cross-referencing everyone's
MASS category. Hope to have everything updated by the end of the holiday
weekend.
This Sunday
(7/4) is the Lone Pine Classic. This is a must-do for anyone that can
make it. It is a great race with some of the best singletrack Michaux has
to offer. It is old-skool style racing with a mass start, a big long
climb to sort things out and one big sweet loop. Registration closes Thursday
night so get your mass's over to BikeReg and sign up. Don't forget your
series plate.
Hey Charles - Sorry I couldn't join you today. Do you have a gps track for the course, or is last year's close enough? If you upload rides to Garmin Connect, a link to that ride would be all I would need. I hope to hit it tomorrow to scout photo locations.

Hey everyone.
I'll be leading a pre-ride of the course this Thursday night at around 6PM. The pace will be steady but not super fast for at least one lap.
