Fall 2001 Italian Rapier Seminar: A weekend of study on the Practice of
Renaissance Italian Swordplay

Armas Jeannette Acosta-Martinez
This seminar will focus on the Italian style of rapier combat popular in
the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The seminar will appeal to both
the serious Western Martial Arts practitioner and to the thespians in the
crowd. Lectures on the history and development of the Italian style. Two
days of hands on instruction with the sword under the instruction of
Maestro Ramon Martinez and Maestro de Armas Jeannette Acosta-Martinez. The
Italian style of combat will also be applied to choreography techniques for
stage and screen performance. Choreography theory and applications of the
Italian method will be taught by Hollywood choreographer Anthony DeLongis
and Mary Gallien. The Maestro will teach practical techniques and theory
and Mr. DeLongis will take that same deadly attack and focus on the story
aspects of the threat and the thwarting of that threat to articulate
character and story.
The Seminar will be held in Ashland, Oregon, home of the Oregon Shakespeare
festival. Class size is limited. Cost $180.00 per person. Registration form
