Got this from the Cubs site:
Mark Grudzielanek celebrated the birth of his first child, an 8-pound
12-ounce baby boy. The Chicago Cubs will celebrate when he returns to
work.
Grudzielanek was in California to be with his fiancé for the birth of
their child, missing his second game Thursday.
"That's a big ol' boy," Chicago Cubs manager Dusty Baker said,
relaying the baby's statistics.
Family is important, but the loss of Grudzielanek has forced Baker to
tweak the leadoff spot in the lineup. Mark Bellhorn batted first
Wednesday and Lenny Harris led off Thursday, the first time he's done
so since April 18, 2001. Harris recorded his 1,000th Major League hit
with a single in the third inning of Thursday's game.
"I thought (Harris) was the best choice of the day," Baker said.
Grudzielanek told Baker he hoped to return in time for Friday's
Interleague game against the New York Yankees.
"My wife's had babies and we're not as tired as the wife but the
husband is tired, too," Baker said. "We want him back rested if he
can come back. If not, we'll adjust."
Congratulations to Mark and his fiancee!
I hope he gets some bonding time with the baby before he gets back
with the team!!
