Well, the Mariners Spring Training begins in two days. It seems like it's been
forever, at least we had FanFest to keep us busy. (even though the lines were
terribly long) I'm just wondering how everyone feels about the Mariner off-
season acquisitions. The Mariners signed three new players, and four old
ones, plus the six minor leaguers. But it still doesn't seem very productive.
Bartolo Colon went to the White Sox. Jose Contreras to the Yankees. Paul
Byrd to the Braves. The Mariners, meanwhile, have improved left-field with
Randy "We'll Win With" Winn. The bench is severely improved with the nice
additions of John Mabry (I'll hold onto my hat until the end of April on this
guy)
and Greg Colbrunn., which is great news considering the Mariners didn't have
a pinch-hit that went for extra bases until September.
Brining back Edgar, Ole, Dan-O, and Moyer were nice, but they are getting up
there in age. How will this team do, since it seems like they aren't really
trying
to improve as much as just save money. Sure, we signed Edgar and the rest
to inexpensive contracts, but what is that money that we saved going to?
Apparently nothing. Jamey Wright is not the answer in the fifth spot, if he
makes it out of spring training alive.
But, nevertheless, I am optimistic about this coming season. I think
everything will turn out allright.
What do you all think?
