Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez is one of a host of Major League
Baseball players participating in a summer sportswear promotion for
Macy's.

News of the multipronged Father's Day marketing blitz has been
reported in sports and advertising publications, but Macy's has not
released any promotion details. Still, an executive at the national
retailer yesterday confirmed the plan.

To showcase the hot weather casual wear, Ramirez reportedly joined 14
other baseball stars for a photo shoot in Florida.

The group included New York Mets manager Willie Randolph, Los Angeles
Dodgers manager Joe Torre, New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, St.
Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols, Detroit Tigers speedster Curtis
Granderson, San Francisco Giants outfielder and former Red Sox hero
Dave Roberts, Seattle Mariners outfielder Raul Ibanez,
Dodgers slugger Jeff Kent, Cincinnati Reds shortstop Brandon Phillips,
Florida Marlins All-Star Dan Uggla, Chicago Cubs slugger Alfonso
Soriano, Atlanta Braves pitcher Tom Glavine, Arizona Diamondbacks
starter Dan Haren and Houston Astros ace Roy Oswalt.

They are expected to appear in a nationally circulated Macy's Father's
Day Gift Guides, as well as local print ads, and national men's
magazines, such as GQ and Esquire.

In some areas, the promotion will include player appearances at Macy's
stores, and a sweepstakes with baseball-themed prizes, such as playing
catch on an MLB diamond.

Cincinnati-based Macy's Inc. has eight Boston-area stores.
