It's that time of year, isn't it? Time for Manny Ramirez to start
grumbling. Time for the trade rumors to begin circulating. Time for . . .
Wait!
We interrupt "Manny being Manny" to bring you this news bulletin,
courtesy of Ramirez's agent, Greg Genske.
"Manny is staying in Boston for the rest of his career," Genske says.
Ramirez, 34, is under the Sox's control only through 2010, at which
point he'll be 38. But Genske says that Ramirez finally is content and
no longer looking to get out of Boston.
"He is a man who is happy with his situation," Genske says.
The Red Sox concur, saying that their communication with Ramirez has
never been better.
Genske, Sox officials say, helped Ramirez reach his new peace of mind,
leveling with him and telling him that his contract would be difficult
to move. Sox manager Terry Francona also has played a pivotal role,
giving Ramirez unqualified support.
Ramirez, though, deserves the most credit for his seeming turnaround —
even if the world is a far less interesting place without "Manny being
Manny."
