Re: More Manny Observations

Here is some more on Manny's arrival from Gordon Edes' boston.com blog...
seems like he is in good spirits and saying the right things for now. Definitely
good news!

Manny Ramirez arrived at Red Sox camp in Fort Myers at 9:02 a.m. this morning,
wearing a No. 81 Tim Brown Oakland Raiders jersey and appearing to be in great
shape.

After retreating into the clubhouse, he emerged to speak with reporters,
deflecting questions about his tardy arrival and trade rumors.
"My main focus is baseball right now and trying to help this team win,"
Ramirez said. "Let me get this straight, I don't want no questions about the
trade rumors. ... You guys want to talk about baseball or whatever, you know I'm
open to talk."
One reporter asked him if he was happy to still be playing for the Red Sox,
and he responded: "I'm here. I'm here."
“I don't live in the past, I live in the present and that's it,” he said.
“This is a new year ... people want me to come back. People want me here so
we're just gonna move on. I'm just gonna come, do my job. I get paid to play
baseball. That's [why] I'm here. That's it. What else can I say?”
The Red Sox announced last week that Ramirez would report today, but until he
actually arrived no one knew for sure when he’d show up.
More Manny observations:

Ramirez said he was in the best shape of his life, and he looks it. He spoke
about why he delayed reporting to Sox camp to continue his personalized
worjouts: “I was doing all my work,” he said. “I didn't want to come and leave
my workout halfway.”

He also confirmed that he was not playing in the World Baseball Classic. Was it
a heard decision to pull out? “Not really because my main focus is getting
prepared for the season, to help Boston win,” Ramirez said.

According to a Red Sox official, Ramirez had his physical and will work out
today.
One reporter asked Manny what it was like to see his teammates again. His
answer: “Pretty good. They're excited about me coming back, being the same guy,
always being happy, and always having fun.”

Manny on his expectations for the season: “For this year nothing. I'm just gonna
be the same guy. I'm gonna go enjoy myself like I always do and have another
great year. I'm in the best shape of my life so what else can I ask?”

Manny was accompanied today by his representatives, including agents Gene Mato
and Greg Genske.

Here's hoping that when I wake up in the morning and turn on ESPN there will be coverage of Manny arriving in Florida for spring training. What a glorious day...
