Fabio Cannavaro won’t be the latest star name to be snapped up by Milan in the
January transfer market.
Having already secured themselves the services of David Beckham for the next two
months, reports claimed that Cannavaro was a New Year target too.
With the Italy stopper’s Real Madrid contract coming to an end in the summer, he
could potentially be available on the cheap next month.
But Adriano Galliani maintains that the former Juventus player won’t arrive,
even if another defender may be on the way.
“Cannavaro won’t come,” he said. “He is a Real Madrid player and he can’t arrive
in the New Year.”
The Rossoneri have already bought a defender in the form of Thiago Silva, but
the Brazilian won’t be eligible to play until next season.
“We’ll see if we can find an available stopper who can play as a left-back and
also in the centre,” added the Milan Vice-President.
The San Siro giants’ defensive problems have been left open to scrutiny by the
prolonged absence of Alessandro Nesta.
“The player is getting better, but he still needs to take the final step in his
recovery plan,” added Galliani.
“He’ll continue his rehabilitation programme in Miami until mid-January, then
he’ll return here where we will see if he can continue to play football at the
highest levels.”
