Hello!
You are getting this e-mail since you may be interested in becoming a UPA
certified Level I Ultimate coach for youth, college, or club teams. Those of us
that have gone through this process in 2007 (Alex Pozzy, Mark Robinson, Nicole
Munkwitz,
myself, etc.) when Pozzy organized this clinic, highly recommend registering and
attending this event. You only need to attend the in-class certification
once... you just renew your certification online with the UPA after 2 years.
You can lapse
your certification renewal for any number of years and always get back onine and
get re-certified...

PLEASE REGISTER NOW for the 2009 UPA Maine Level I Coaching Clinic. Thanks to
Meredith for setting this up via UPA HQ....Very simple..
1) Log on to your UPA account at www.upa.org (if you are not a UPA member, you
will need to become one in order to participate in the clinic)
2) Look at your events and go ahead and register
3) Use the imbedded PayPal to finalize registration by paying for the clinic
($75) on your credit card... if you have already attended a UPA coaching clinic
and want to attend again, you will still need to pay the $75 fee to cover
materials, etc.

Please register as soon as possible so we can meet the minimum of 8 folks... At
the end of this e-mail is most update list of those interested... it is
growing... please continue to forward to folks you think may be interested..
Level I is for
interested youth, college, and club Ultimate coaches.

"MAINE YOUTH ULTIMATE" SUBSIDIES WILL BE HANDED OUT AT THE COACHING CLINIC TO
EXISTING COACHES THAT HAVE BROUGHT THEIR YOUTH TEAMS TO STATES AND PLAN ON DOING
SO THIS SPRING. IF YOU ARE A NEW COACH AND BRING YOUR TEAM TO STATES, YOUR
SUBSIDY WILL
BE GIVEN TO YOU ON SUNDAY OF MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND THIS SPRING AT STATES. THIS
SUBSIDY IS INDEPENDENT OF YOU PAYING THE FULL FEE OF $75 TO ATTEND THE CLINIC
VIA PAYPAL. SUBSIDIES WILL LIKELY BE AROUND HALF THE COST OF THE CLINIC.

Also, I have not heard back from Matt Newberg regarding securing Hyde. I have
e-mailed and left messages on both his cell phone and school line. Matt
believed it was no problem to get Hyde as a host site when we conversed in early
summer. If Matt
can secure Hyde as a clinic site as an organizer he will get his registration
fee waived (UPA policy). If for some reason Hyde does not go through, we will
find another site. Anyone who organizes this in terms of securing the location
will get
their clinic fee waived. Let us wait to hear back from Matt.

ALSO... ATTACHED IS THE MOST UPDATED DRAFT VERSION OF ROB ROWSE'S CONTACT LIST
FOR YOUTH TEAMS IN MAINE. THANK-YOU ROB FOR PUTTING THIS INTO EXCEL WHERE THE
DATA IS MORE EXTRACTABLE! PLEASE LET ME KNOW OF ANY CHANGES THAT NEED TO BE
MADE....
THANKS!

Hello!
Thirteen folks have gotten back expressing interest in a UPA Level 1 coaching
clinic! PLEASE REPLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED!!! Josh Seamon who will be running
the clinic is coach of St. Johnsbury Academy in VT and is also a current UPA
Board Member.
Josh prefers Saturday (12/5)... Please let me know if this is OK...Most folks
that got back to me said Saturday, 12/5 was OK...

*Matt Newberg will be looking to lock this in place at Hyde School in Bath,
Maine.

Please spread the word about this! The more folks that can make it the better!
Recall that Maine Youth Ultimate has some funds to play with to partially
subsidize the cost for those attending... esp. those that are currently coaching
and NEED such
support... if you are a new coach and coach a youth team this season or host an
Ultimate clinic at your local high school, subsidy you will get...anyone from
the Bangor/Orono/Lincoln area is more than welcome to carpool with me to defray
transport
costs...

If you get a chance, please add onto "Maine Youth Ultimate" in Facebook...
thanks!

Once this gets stamped for approval and officially scheduled from Meredith
Tosta, UPA National Youth Coodinator, and from Josh Seamon, event postings
through all the usual channels will be forthcoming...

Hello!
Matt Newberg has volunteered to secure a site at the Hyde School in Bath, Maine, for a possible second UPA Coaching Clinic late this Fall so interested Youth Ultimate coaches can get UPA Level I certified. HOWEVER WE NEED A MINIMUM OF 8 COACHES TO
ATTEND IN ORDER FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. Mark Robinson, Adrian, and Pozzy can probably attest that this is well worth the money spent since Josh Seamon puts on an excellent clinic. Josh is the St. Johnsbury Varsity boys and girls coach, is the New
England Youth Championship coordinator, and is on the UPA Board of Directors. Cost around $75 but this time around we have money from Maine Youth Ultimate that can cost share some of that.

PLEASE REPLY TO ME INDIVIDUALLY (NOT REPLY ALL) WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING DATES YOU CAN COMMIT TO AND HOW CERTAIN YOU WILL BE THERE. If we get a good solid 8-12 commitments, we will be inclined to book this thing...else, no.

Recall that as your teams start traveling to out-of-state tourneys like many of them already have over the years...many tourneys look favorably on coaching certification. Having gone through this when Pozzy organized the first one in March of 2007,
it is well worth your time since coaching clinics in a lot of places not in the big cities are on two year cycles! Also, even though you may only have very limited experiences with coaching / advising youth ultimate, there are many things that are
covered in the clinic that are transferable to college and club teams.

Also, please forward this e-mail to interested parties and list servers... we have probably left out a bunch of folks to let know about this but this list was put together hastily to get a sense if the interest is still there based on verbals at
States this past spring.. Thanks!

Also, if these dates are not good, please say so... these are the only dates in the late fall that do not fall on major holidays. Dates are all Sundays:
>11/15
>11/22
>12/6

Hello all,

Unfortunately we're going to have to change fields for Saturday's Tournament. It'll most likely either be at the old Rockport Middle School (across from Market Basket - Intersection of 90 and 1), or at the Rockport Rec Fields (About a mile in on Rt 90 from said intersection).

Another email will be out tomorrow morning to confirm which field.

Same deal, 10 am, show up with a hat and bbq $!!

Sorry for the trouble! Please pass the word on to everyone.

See you then

Hidcoast Mat

EVGER!!

Yeah, I added a “g” to ever. That’s how we roll at Hidcoast Mat.

About the tourney: a hat tournament is a sort of pickup tourney. Players of absolutely every skill level are encouraged to come (And we mean absolutely every skill level). Every brings a hat (extra ridiculous ones are appreciated) and throws it in a big bag. Hats are drawn from the bag to select the teams for the day. Play proceeds in a round-robin format, with breaks for feeding barbecue style, playing ridiculous ultimate games, and potentially also naps in the grass. Remember hats must be worn at all times during play. A hat that falls off mitigates a turnover at Hidcoast Mat, unless caught by a team-member (heroic measure are encouraged to save fallen hats). Much fun is had by all. Location: back to the Mary E Taylor Middle School in Camden, 34 Knowlton Street.

As always, no tourney fee, but bring 5 bucks and/or some food for the lunchtime barbecue effort (don’t let that keep you from coming, though!).
Bring a (crazy) hat and a few bucks for the barbecue! Tell your friends! Tell your neighbors! Tell your pets! Tell your friendly local convenience stores! Be in touch with any questions! Let’s make Hidcoast Mat Volume VII the biggest best and craziest yet!
Alright, I stole that last part from last month’s, which was stolen from last year’s, but it all still applies.

Can’t wait! Last farewell bash for many for this summer – let’s make it count!

Hi Danji -
Wish I could be there, but we've moved to COLORADO! (Near Boulder -
gorgeous mountains and LOTS of Ultimae.)

Have a great time and give my regards to all and sundry.

Best, Kalen

Hidcoast Mat Volume VI: Hidcoast Mat takes on the Snow Bowl

Saturday, July 11 2009, Camden  All seekers of flying plastic rejoice and seek no more! Hidcoast Mat Volume VI is upon us. The last two years of hat tourney play have done us well and it’s time to keep it going through the summer. Tell yo’ friends!

We’re going to try the Camden Snow Bowl this time: Saturday July 11, 10 am (till 4 or so). Snow Bowl info/directions here: http://www.camdensnowbowl.com/gettinghere.cfm

As always, no tourney fee, but bring 5 bucks and/or some food for the lunchtime barbecue effort (don’t let that keep you from coming, though!).

Alright, I stole that last part from last year’s, but it all still applies.

Can’t wait! See you there! And stay tuned for Volume VII in the beginning of August!

Tired of having the High School Ultimate season end before you are ready to hang up your cleats for the season? Well, Good News!!

The Portland Ultimate High School Summer League is intended toprovide an opportunity for High School students to play ultimate in the summer months (beyond the traditional Spring High School season) and thereby encourage growth of the sport in the Greater Portland area.

The league will be a coed "club" league where existing High School teams will be able to continue to play with players from their own High School. We expect at least four and possibly six teams this season. A minimum on-field ratio of 6 (boys) to 1 (girl) will be required.  Eventually we will strive for a 5:2 or 4:3 ratio.

All League games will be played Monday nights at 6pm for 8 weeks at the Cumberland Fairgrounds in Cumberland, Maine, starting on June 8th and ending on July 27, 2009. All games will take place on 2-3 adjacent fields at the Fairgrounds. The High School Summer League will be on a separate night from the adult Portland Summer League (PSL) so that High School players may participate in both leagues they desire.

Each team can be either student or coach-led or some combination of the two. Either way, the league will be sanctioned by the UltimatePlayers Association (UPA) and as a result, UPA membership and chaperones will be required. A desirable roster size is 16-18 players per team. Since there will be some High Schools that are not able to field a full roster, some teams will be composed of a combination of players from various High Schools.

The league will be open to all High School students, including incoming freshmen and out-going seniors. The cost will be $25 per player (not including UPA registration). Each player will receive a tee-shirt and there will be an end of the season cook out and playoffs.

Have fun, meet new people, improve your game, show off your skills. Don't let your season end in May.

(First team to register 10 players gets 1st choice of tee-shirt color)

Hello!
The 2009 UPA Maine Youth Ultimate Championships as stated before in an earlier e-mail is on Sunday, Memorial Day weekend, May 24, 2009.

Thanks very much to Mark Robinson for locking in the field site for this!

States will be at Cumberland Fairgrounds again... please mark your calendars!

There are 2 potential new teams attending from the southern Maine and Portland area, so in best interest of all to have it again at Cumberland. There may or may not be teams attending from Bangor HS and Hampden Academy but likely they would be able
to field a joint team. So potential loss of one team from Bangor area against potential gain in 2 teams (Falmouth and Poland) seems way to go. If event was at Hampden, more teams we would lose.

PLEASE POST IF YOU CAN MAKE STATES. THIS WILL ALSO BE POSTED AS AN EVENT IN FACEBOOK SOON...

Thanks all for assisting in this process of organizing the State tourney this year! I am definitely now teaching May term at Bates so I will be busier work wise than last year...i.e. will not have as much time to devote to organization as in
previous years when I had no teaching load the end of May. Thanks!
