Re: [maineyouthultimate] 2008 UPA Maine Youth Ultimate Championships & Potential Clinic/Hat Tourne

Brunswick is in for States as well as any possible co-ed playing.

I would say, from personal experience, that one game a week is a possibility, especially with the rapid growth over the past couple of years, but it could be less frequent than that. I can also add that there are teams who do not have an official coach, and are run more by the students themselves. With this in mind, when i was the captain at Freeport, many of our scrimmages were arranged by contacting players (or coaches) on other teams directly, and a few were planned via the yahoo group.

Hash,

Thanks for taking care of all these details.

The Merriconeag High School would probably be interested in the coed clinic, since we'd be fielding a coed team this year, but since it will be our first year ever (the school itself is only two years old), I don't have any idea about these kinds of things until we get going.  I'm am pretty sure we'll have a team though, from what I've heard from some kids.

On a side note, given the number of high school teams in southern Maine, how many games would you think we could plan on having - one a week?  More?  Less?  And from your experience, are those typically scheduled via the maineyouthultimate Yahoo site, or do coaches contact each other, or both?  I've played plenty, but never had to worry about the coaching and administrative part, so any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

Rob

Subject: [maineyouthultimate] 2008 UPA Maine Youth Ultimate Championships & Potential Clinic/Hat Tourney

Hi Folks
Here is the likely date for States
UPA Maine Youth Ultimate Championships
Cumberland County Fairgrounds
140 Bruce Hill Road
Cumberland Center, ME
Sunday, May 25, 2008, All Day
Grill and Chill...
Please let me know if this date for states is a problem for your team! Thanks! So far I have not heard back from anyone that this is a bad time. Facebook commitments so far are very promising. Please note it is Memorial Day weekend so folks may
need to schedule accordingly. Remember that the reason for scheduling this instead of early or mid-May is to extend the season for teams to travel out of state for tourneys as well as to host their own tourneys.
Rich had a great idea of a coed clinic/hat tourney for youth folks. Perhaps this could be a trial for eventual addition of a coed division in addition to the existing open division. Would folks be interested in this? More hands on contact with
Red Tide, Gale Force, etc. folks from Portland if this was held in the Portland area. Please post your thoughts on this...
