I like your ideas. The State Championship should be the culmination of the season and having it at the end makes a lot of sense.
An additional co-ed event, sounds good as well.
A couple of thoughts/questions:
- Will open teams, having already competed in the open championship, also be able to compete in the co-ed event?
- If we go 4/3 for co-ed, realistically there would have to be at least 5 girls per school. That seems like a bit of a stretch right now and it might limit participation. 5/2 may be better.
- Have you given any thought to a youth co-ed "club" event? Maine youth could recruit between schools and communities. Open it up to other New England States. Make sure that we include a pick-up team.
- Is there is any interest in a Maine girls team? There are a couple New England Tournaments for girls.

The Greely graduation is June 8th. Other High Schools probably have similar dates.

Greetings!
I have heard from several folks regarding improvements to last spring's season of Maine Youth Ultimate. There are 2 suggested changes several folks in MYU have suggested. Please let folks know if you have any concerns or objections to these
potential changes from last season:
1) Have the Maine Open (i.e. open to both genders) HS Championships scheduled for the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend - Sunday, 5/25
Note that May only has 4 Sundays this year. Folks have expressed an interest in having a longer spring season to go to more out-of-state tourneys and to host more in-state tourneys. Having the state tourney the second Sunday in May (5/11) is too
early and leaves too much of a gap between states and New Englands (6/1). Assuming we can get
Cumberland Fairgrounds for that date, there is next to zero chance of a rainout (Fairgrounds do not rain out).
In the past when we had states on Memorial Day weekend, some teams were not able to have certain players attend due to family commitments. If given enough notice, do folks see that as an issue? Also, we could schedule for the Sunday before
Memorial Day (5/18) but that is typically weekend of White Mountain, and many coaches and Rich (i.e. Red Tide folks) are gone.
2) ADD a Maine Coed HS Championships the second Sunday in June (6/8) - Location TBA, perhaps in the Midcoast in Camden? Watershed and Danji were highly successful last summer organizing 3 youth hat tourneys. The first was in mid-June. What are
folks' thoughts about having that first hat tourney held as a coed state championship? That still leaves July and August for coed hat tourneys. Like the Open championship, it would open to all teams in Maine. The gender ratio would be 4-3, which
may encourage more schools to recruit more women to play disc. Would 6/8 be too near the end of school and proms and all that sort of thing?
Also, regarding an official youth league, I have not heard back from many folks regarding that. For this year, would folks be interested in just getting scores of their scrimmages into UPA score reporter? Is everyone familar with doing that?
Score reporter takes both individual scrimmages between teams as well as tourneys to calculate RRI for seeding purposes. All the divisions use it...
Please send your thoughts! Thanks!
