Fellow Discers All –

As about 40 of you well know from experience, the Maine Youth Ultimate Collective (MYUC) had an extremely successful debut appearance at Clambake this past weekend, the 29th and 30th of September, at Bowdoin College in Brunswick.

On the first day we had a rather unusual problem for Ultimate teams – way too many players! The second day our numbers dropped from 30+ to somewhere in the 20's. We had, if my calculations are correct, over half a decade (52 years!) of age range on the team, from 14 – 64, with players from all creeds – just beginning high school players through college players and up to the cagey vets of the game.

With our 50/50 Raffle, we raised $234 - $117 to Maine Special Olympics and $117 to the lucky winner from Glen from RPI. Thanks to all for selling tickets - especially our reps at the Party Saturday night who sold a Large Chunk of those.

We had no idea how the team would fare – as Hash said, the possibility existed that we'd score no points against these practicing college and club teams of top-caliber. That proved not to be the case, with MYUC scoring at least two points in every game we played. Our games went like this:

Saturday:
Quiet Coyote (13) v. MYUC (2)
Lotus Eaters (13) v. MYUC (2)
UMaine Farmington (13) v. MYUC (7)
Brown (13) v. MYUC (2)

Sunday:
Dead Reckoning (21) v. MYUC (6)
UMaine Farmington v. MYUC (informal)

Those were 19 sweet points, folks, against some of the premier stuff of Ultimate.

So, Congrats and thanks to all who made it down to play! Also HUGE thanks to Little Asian Man Hash for his energy, teaching and organizing, Maine Youth Ultimate for backing part of the tourney fee, and Alex Pozzy and Clambake for accepting the bid for our little venture and putting on such a sweet Tourney year after year!

Plans are potentially in the works for another MYUC team in the future, probably with a service bid (possibly for on-site childcare during the tourney). As it grows, ideally in the future the team would be comprised increasingly of current High School players. If you've got further ideas for any of this, or energy and time to potentially do some organizing, please let either me or Hash know.

A short Disc Lost-And-Found:
1) Scott: Hash has your 2005 High School Championships disc
2) I have an unmarked UMaine Farmington Beaver Fever disc here which somehow ended up in my bag, if its yours or you who's it is, let me know.
3) My new 2007 Clambake disc somehow ended up not with me on Sunday, and unfortunately the had sold out – so I'd love to track it down – it's got my name/signature on the back, looks kind of like a 'D' and a cursive "g" with a dot over it. That's be super if it ended up with your stuff somehow.

So, many thanks once again, and BIG Kudos to MYUC for such a smashing debut!

See you on the field –

Yours in Disc,

-Danji
