Welcome everyone!

There are routes for all rides (after Sunday's) posted under "files".
Unfortunately I am not savvy enough to include a map with them, but
there are written directions for each. Check the name of the route in
the calendar & then find the corresponding route in the files.

The weather looks favorable for our inaugural ride on Sunday. Hope to
see everyone there!

I've posted a couple of pictures of maps under "files." These are pictures of
maps of Jane's
rides. One is a jpg the other is a pdf. Does it matter which way I post them?
Are they useful
in either form?

It seems I saw a mention of bikethisway.com in an earlier email. They have a
nice little cue sheet generator that makes .pdf cue sheets in a form that's easy
to fold and carry with you.

Would it be better if the cue sheets that are word.doc's were converted to .pdf?
Does everyone have MS Word? I have the Acrobat software to convert them to .pdf
if that would be of any use.

Also note that there are numerous rides with cue sheets, and some with maps,
here:
http://www.rideva.com/rides/index2.htm
Some energetic person can copy them over to the files section if they would like
:-)

I'm sending this to the new Yahoo madcyclists group as well as those in my
cycling email list, so some of you may be getting this twice, but I wanted to
make sure I didn't miss anyone.

If you haven't joined the new madcyclists email list, you should. ALL OF MY
FUTURE CORRESPONDENCE WILL GO THROUGH THE LIST. Here's a link if you haven't
signed up:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/madcyclists/

I just want to make sure we still want to continue to have bike rides on
Thursday nights. I see that Jane already has some Tuesday night rides on the
calendar. Do we also want to have Thursday night rides? I don't mind
continuing to do them. I guess my plan would be to email the madcyclists list
early in the week, and if you can make it, LET THE LIST KNOW so that no one
shows up alone (if no one responds, I won't be there either!!). There will be
weeks that I can't make it on Thursday nights, on these occasions I will also
notify the list that I won't be there and someone else can pick it up, or we'll
just skip that Thursday ride.

Let me know what you all think.

I'll plan to ride this Thursday. Meet at 5:30pm at Mt Zion Church in Oak Park,
we'll ride about 17 miles. Since Jane is heading to Radiant on Tuesday, we'll
go out towards Brightwood on Thursday. Let me know if you plan to be there!!

Forecast for Saturday looks 'ify' definitely cooler than forecast for
Sunday.
Lets have a quick Poll:, anyone interested in changing the St Paddy's

I got one the other day, unfortunately no mention of any cycling
organizations in Planning District 9(Madison, Culpeper, Orange, Rapp.,
Fauquier) The Yowell Meadow Park Trail is shown. There is a lop in
Remington but that's not the map either.

FYI: There is also a VDOT/RRRC regional bike/ped forum in the works for Wed,
May 2, with presentations on new state bicycle policies and related
topics of interest, about which additional info should be forthcoming
shortly, both from VDOT and RRRC Rural Transportation Technical
Committee.

Chilly; a bit. Windy; quite a bit!
Sunny, mid 40's, and 10-14 mph winds with gusts to 25mph.
Perfect riding weather? You must be MAD!
Four riders braved the elements to enjoy 30 plus miles of head wind,
and 2 to 3 miles of tail wind. Funny thing about wind on a bicycle,
wind is much worse than a hill, at least hills have two sides, up and
down. You 'buy' the downhill with the uphill effort.
The only tail wind encountered today was after we turned onto rte 230
heading east from Willis Rd. I have never pulled that hill at 17 mph
before, and then a blast east on 230 towards hot coffee at Sheetz at
27 mph, effortlessly!!!
Checkout lady at Sheetz suggested we were crazy (are crazy?) to be
riding bicycles in that weather. What can I say?
MAD cyclists!
Perhaps she is right.
