and there will be a roda afterward.  Please try to make it to this.

So Tuesday is the first official Destaque class.  As of now we have
Cuica, Perigosa and Tatuzinho. Its really nice for me to see these
three as the first in the program because they are my oldest students.
I think we are all really excited about this new program.  I don't
know of a single other capoeira school anywhere that has this.  I'm
really looking forward to working with everyone is this program to
take them as far as they dare to go.


Remember, anyone with their first cord is eligible to join destaque.

I would like to give a huge welcome to familia maculele Professor
Aranha and his student and my friend Espantalho

This has been a long time coming and I am ecstatic to see these two in
our group.  Truth be told, they have already been a part of the group
for a while, they just didn't have the shirt yet.  They are great
capoeiristas and I have already had the pleasure to learn a lot from
both of them.  I know that in the future I will learn even more.

This new addition to our group will make for even better batizados.
Our next one is March 14th.  Estagiario Cavalo is putting in most of
the organizational work so lets help out as much as we can where ever
we can.

Are you in Destaque?

Destaque is a new program I'm rolling out for those who already know
that capoeira is something "extra".  Its for those who want to be the
best they possibly can be and get the most out of their capoeira
experience.  This program is going to help you meet your goals and
give you the focus and support you need.

Graduado-The first goal

The first part of the program is going to center around getting you to
graduado.  Graduating is a big step in a capoeristas life.  You can
start to play in some teacher rodas, you get your first title, you can
start to teach, and its a recognition that you have a pretty good
basic understanding of most aspects of capoeira.  Its our version of a
"black belt".  Its my goal to take as many of you who want to go, all
the way to this level and beyond.

Destaque isn't for everyone and that's ok!  Some people don't have the
time or they just like the workout capoeira gives.  They have no
desire to ever be a teacher or they just see capoeira as a pastime or
hobby.  NO PROBLEM!  Destaque is more of a fast track for those that
already know they want the extra pressure and support in and out of
class.  And if your goals change, you can always join Destaque later.

So here is what is required for Destaque:
You must have at least your first cord
You must organize at least one fund raiser per year, outside of batizado
You must organize at least one community service project per year
Attend 2 classes + Roda every week
Help Extensively with batizados
If in school, must keep high conduct and academic grades

Here is what you get:
Leadership development program
CPR/First Aid Training and certification
After 2 years and approval, Key to academy and unlimited access to the
school
Give intro classes to new students - 3rd cord and up
Special workshops
Special workshops at Batizados and Events
Special Class every week just for Destaque members
Special Uniform Shirt


This is just the program outline.  There is a lot more to come.  I'll
be talking about this a lot in class in the weeks to come.  Talk to me
ASAP if you are interested.

This Thursday there will be no adult class.  For whoever is
interested, Perigosa and the Miami Art Museum is having their largest
party of the year Party on the Plaza.  You need a pass to get in so if
you haven't gotten one already talk to perigosa and she can get you a
pass.
I wouldn't normally cancel class for a party, but the MAM has been a
huge part of our growth as a school and presence here in Miami.  And
this is a good time for us to get out and relax a little together

We will still be having kids class.  If there are any parents that
would like to go you are welcome as well of course!!
