Leigh,

Each year I bring my trailer down the weekend before to secure a spot with electricity and water. I rope off an area where we can layout tents and park cars. Typically it is on the third loop of Redondo camp.

Once I get back from dropping off the trailer I will send out a note with the exact camp spot. This way folks can come and go without getting stuck out in Tim buck two.

I am still waiting to hear back from Terri Davis on the team (M2T2) entry for Trical.

And, i didnt know there was a M2T2 option for Tri-Ca events... I have done a few and totally would have used that, but didnt realize! :(

Shawn and Jeff,

Along the lines of the club (M2T2) I see Tricalifornia has taken the M2T2 club out of the call down window in online registration. I assume it is because low use. I do believe we have more M2T2 member participating in Tricalifornia events but just not using the club/team option from TRICAL. I will contact Terry and Betsy Davis and find out if this is the case.

I have registered for Wildflower and will taking my trailer down the weekend before to reserve a spot for the team to camp. Last year nobody showed up but the previous 8 years we had huge crowds.

Best, Bill

Hi Shaun,

Since I am faculty at NPS and here year round I'd be interested in taking on the position. I also have several sponsorships from companies that I can work with to extend to the club this season on beyond. Please let me know if you'd like to meet up for coffee sometime to discuss.

Cheers,

Jeff

M2T2,

I dropped off my trailer Thursday night. I have attached a map to RB7 which is on the “B” loop of Redondo sites. I circled the site in red with an arrow. I have a large blue and white pop-up trailer and a Cadillac Escalade truck. There is plenty of room for tents and easy access from both sides of the camp.

Let’s discuss a carbo loading plan AKA pasta, bread and salad for Friday and Saturday nights. I really do not have any idea if anyone is even coming. I am arriving Thursday night and departing Monday. I am doing long course on Saturday so Friday is a carbo must. In years past this has been a very low key eating event. The camp site has easy access to watch the race and walk down to Lynch where the packet pickup and events will be occurring.

I sincerely hope to hear and see all you this weekend.

M2T2 and friends,

I have herd from several of you and here is the agenda for Friday and Saturday night.

Carbo-loading both nights will consist of Salad, Pasta and Sauce. I have bought all the pasta for both nights. What we need is a couple of bags of salad, salad dressing, and sauce. I have all the pots and pans in the trailer. We can combine sauce and salad and bring choice of salad dressing. If you like we could add French bread and I could cook it in the oven in the trailer.

I depart tomorrow late afternoon and will not have access to email after 1200. My cell is 831-224-2937 but my service is limited at the lake.

Remember the site is RB7 per the attached map. I am departing Sunday night.

Bring you tent and I will see you at the lake.

Best, Bill

P.S. Remember it is at South Shore for those of you who have never been to Lake San Antonio.

Good Day,

I am part of a group of DLI Chinese students who are putting together a team to
do the 12 July 2009 LiveStrong Challenge century ride in San Jose. If you are
not familiar with this event, you can check out their website here:
http://www.livestrongchallenge.org/site/c.frKPI1PAIoE/b.3935377/

We are looking for a few more cyclists to join us for the century ride. Joining
the team and participating in the event does require a modest fundraising
effort. Proceeds benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation and their struggle
against cancer.

If you are interested, reply to this post or e-mail me at gjsamps@....

Best regards,

Hello M2T2,

Off topic, I will be attending NPS starting this Jan 2010 for 2yrs. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations on locations to live (off campus)? I was thinking renting close to Marina state beach. So I can have a 'somewhat' good distance bike ride to campus.

I'm also racing Ironman Coeur D' Alene 2010, any recommendations on long distance training/groups in the area?

Thanks,
Stan

Stan,
It has been about a year since I have been, but if you look out in Pacific Grove (PG) or Pebble Beach, that will give you a nice ride in on the bike path and close to a lot of the bike groups that ride.

Thanks Kent, I have consider Pacific Grove as well. I was up at Pacific Grove for a weekend in August, it appeared that the beach was always covered with a marine layer while the rest of town was sunny. How often does this happen?

I plan to take another short trip in Nov, to check out the locations again!

Thanks,
Stan

PG gets a Marine Layer Daily, usually in the afternoon, but so does most of the area, including Marina and SeaSide. They also get some nice wind but you can not avoid it anywhere in the area. Each has their benefits, Marinia and Seaside is a little warmer, but PG is in a pretty good location and the people are pretty friendly.  It is a fairly comfortable place to live and more convenient to workout. Check them out, rent and availability are also a big factor.

Sorry for the incredibly delayed response, but hopefully it's still somewhat useful...

I have lived in PG, near downtown Monterey near Monterey High School, and in New Monterey (between DLI and PG).  I like living close to town so we can walk to Portola Plaza (there are often festivals and such on the weekends there), coffee shops, grocery stores, etc.  And it is nice being close to work if you need to get in in a hurry.  If I want to get a longer ride in on the way to work, I just head up over the hills and wander around for a while (even better is to do this on the way home so you are not hot and sweaty when you get to work).  But we very rarely drive (once a month or so - basically when we have to pick lumber up from Home Depot and need the car anyway...), so running or biking is the only way we get to work.

New Monterey is my favorite so far, a little more "real" than PG (less touristy, doesn't seem to close down at 7 or 8 every night...), definitely more sunny than PG (although you get fog anywhere you live in the area unless you head out to the hills - but living at the bottom of a hill was one of our requirements - pulling a 2 year old up a hill at the end of the day in the bike trailer is not my idea of a good time.), and a little less "suburban" feeling than the house we lived at near downtown Monterey.

I definintely like being close to downtown Monterey, that is where we always end up going to meet up with friends, group rides, runs, etc.

As far as training, the two main groups (besides NPS of course) are the velo club (vcmonterey.org), and the wednesday night laundry runners (wnlr.org).  A lot of people have done Coeur d'Alene in the past in this area, so you will probably be able to hook up with them through one of these groups.

Hi everyone!!!

Thanks for these messages, for i just found out last night that i got picked up for the AFIT program (an Air Force program) that will have me in Monterey for 2-2.5 years, come Sep 2010.
I like the look/feel of bungalows, so was thinking PG would be a good choice, but I also like modern looks, so am thinking new Monterey will also be a good choice.

I've been looking on craigslist for places to rent/buy, but informing me of any realtors that you might know would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, seeing how this is a tri club (lol), i've done 3 IM's, dozen or so 1/2's, etc, etc.  I'd like to do some more while there, but am also getting involved with figure competitions. :)

Thanks so much for your help and advice.  I look forward to meeting you all!

I want to run a 1/2IM in 2010 and a full IM in late 2010 or 2011. I've done an
Olympic tri and 7 marathons.

I can't do it alone though. Anyone in the same boat as me?

I'd love to have a meeting... I think we'd need to advertise on campus though...
put up some flyers on some doors, etc.

Scooter,

I have done Wildflower long course (1/2 IM) recently about ten times and Escape from Alcatraz once.

I am a finisher and not a competitor but have been doing triathlons since 1986.

I also have access to TRICAL President who has offered to come talk to M2T2.

Hey Scooter,

I signed up for Ironman Couer D' Alene which is in June and also for Big Sur Marathon which is in April. I'm looking for training partners as well.

But if you are looking to do an half IM or a full IM, I think 1/2 Vineman in July and Full Vineman in Aug would be good events try. If you're looking for a late season event, the Big Khuna in Santa Cruz is good as well.

I will be up in Monterey in two weeks :)

If anyone is interested in going earlier in the day than the 1615 push off tomorrow and getting miles in Z2 (probably around about HR 125-140 for most folks) I plan on pushing off at 1500 tomorrow for a 32-35 mile ride and will be done well before the sun sets.

BT.

I wanted to make sure everyone knows about what Monterey has to offer in the way of triathlon training as well.

There is a great triathlon team in the area ran by Alexis Smith (pro triathlete almost went to the olympics, this year will be her first SOLELY as a coach and not racing...  although she kicked butt last year) and Sharon Osgood (has been amateur Team USA, now solely coaches, USAT development coach of the year 2008) and the 2010 season is getting ready to begin.  They are really great so please take a look at the email below and if you are interested, shoot 'em an email!

Subject: MBM 2010 Triathlon Team

Hello everybody,
I hope this email finds you doing well! As most of you know the triathlon season will soon be under way and since I will be working with the adults on the MBM team this year, I wanted to touch base with all of you. I have attached this year's team registration form as well as information on the team and this year's planned race schedule (you may do some, all or none of these races, but either Sharon or I plan to be at most of them).

A few new things for this year: I will be taking on greater responsiblity with the adults in making sure you are getting what you need. I would like to meet with each of you individually to set up your annual plan as well as sit down with you to help you plan a month long training schedule to get you started. I am available for questions via email or phone, so please don't hesitate to contact me during this year's season. Our first team workout will be February 21 at 1pm at Pezzini Farms (bike and possible run).
Sharon and I are also holding a team camp down at Lake San Antonio the weekend of April 2nd-4th.

In keeping you updated on current team workouts as well as events around Monterey and elsewhere, we will have a new website up and running soon. The web address will be the same at www.montereybaymultisport.com, however the site will be easier to navigate and will also have a fresh design. You will also notice our new logo!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me and Sharon and I look forward to having you on this year's MBM team!

Alexis

I've worked out with these folks and their are some really solid swimmers if you can fit it into your class schedule.  A great way to keep motivated on your swim training!

Are there any group training rides or swims currently going on? I am new to the
area and looking for some info. I am signed up for the Wildflower and also have
a friend interested in doing the swim portion on a team if anyone else is
interested in doing the relay.

Adam,
The M2T2 doesn't exist anymore.  Most of the tri guys (including myself) are part of the NPS Cycling Club.  You should sign up for the clubs Google group.

there are a group of about 30 racers from NPS going down to do Wildflower.  I'm the POC for it so let me know if you have any questions.

All,

I just returned from five nights at Lake San Antonio. The weather was ice two of the five days. The swim buoys are out for practice. Lot of people there for TNT. It is time to put it on the horizon.

I am bringing the trailer down the weekend before and plan to try for the same spot. I know it is still a ways off but lets think about a menu.

Best, Bill
