M2T2,

Here are the details for this Saturday's ride. For those who came out for the
great workout last week, I hope you can join us again. I have since dismissed
the scale on my current map, and from now on will add a cushion of 10 miles just
to ensure we don't break anyone's curfew. Last week's ride was great, even
though the 45 miles I predicted turned into nearly 60. I did that on purpose
actually, just to make sure everyone got a little extra workout. Again, for
those not wanting to ride the full distance, there will be several opportunities
to turn off and shorten the route.

For this Saturday, here is the proposed route:

Meet again at the parking lot on Del Monte (Across from NPS gate) @ 0700

-Bike path south through PG to 17 mile drive (we'll jump on Lighthouse for a
brief stretch after the tunnel to avoid the closed rec trail)
-17 mile drive at Asilomar through Pebble Beach to Carmel
-Carmel to Carmel Valley Rd south
-Laureles Grade (I know you were waiting for this) to Hwy 68
-Hwy 68 to Del Rey Oaks
-Del Rey Oaks to Sand City
-Sand City (bike path) to parking lot on Del Monte

Total Distance: APPROXIMATELY 45 miles ( I added 10 to what the map measures)
Ride Time: 2.5-3.0 hrs

For those who have yet to ride up Laureles Grade, DON'T be intimidated, but at
the same time, come prepared to sweat briefly. The climb is about 2 miles at 7%
grade. Compared to the back-to-back climbs of 5 or more times this distance in
the Tour, this is just a warm-up.

If you don't think you're up for this leg, or have a time constraint, you can
peel off in Carmel and either head back the way we came, or cut over the Hwy 1
hill to Monerey.

Hope to see many of you there Sat. Please "Reply to All" so we can clutter up
everyone's INBOX and give us an idea on who to expect.

Craig

I'll be there for the first part, but will peel off sometime after Carmel. I've got a geology field trip at Pt Lobos, so will just ride my bike there. Paul ...
