Good morning All,
I finished my term yesterday and have a break until the 20th, so I can devote some more time to the club.  I realize that most people thought it 'died' again, but that's not the case.  Here's what's happening...

1) I will be at the PG Tri.  I will be there networking as well as to write a story on M2T2 participation (there's also going to be a small 9/11 ceremony represented by some of our military members; we are still looking for Army, Air Force and Coast Guard volunteers).  My intent is to do a story for the NPS inter/intranet, our website, etc.

PLEASE find me at the tri so I can get some photos as well as some soundbites for the story.

2) Mike McFerron has been working diligently on the new website design.  He and I met yesterday and hope to have it ready to go next week.  It will include photos (hence the PG tri coverage), training schedules, links to sponsor sites (if approved), official club info, maps of training routes, schedule of events, results, etc.  Let us know what you would like to see!

3) I never received ANY input concerning training days for groups, only requests that it would be helpful.  I will be trying to get some more info Saturday and should have this posted next week in MBAC along with the website.  If you have any input, please let me know ASAP.

4) I am trying to put together a winter duathlon series at Ft. Ord.  I spoke with Mike McFerron about it and he agrees that it would be a good thing...sorry no swim portion, but that might be able to be cooridinated with the CSUMB pool at a later time.

IF I have some positive feedback, I will pursue it further.  Here's what we were thinking -- It would...
...be held once a month;
...be on a closed loop with the triangle near Normandy/Parker Flats acting as the staging area;
...have varying formats (i.e.-run/bike, bike/run, run/bike/run, bike/run/bike, etc.) and varying lengths each time;
...be run on the honor system (like the Tuesday Crit);
...consist of at least two categories -- experienced and newbies, which would help us to reach out to new members as well as act as a coaching format for ALL;
...'possibly' be a series with prizes given at the end of it (based on points; most improved; hardship; youngest; etc.);
...allow us to get together and build camaradiere, etc.;
...and it would be open only to club members and their families.

PLEASE let me know what you think so I can start working out the logistics.

5) In the past there was always an Ironman Hawaii potluck to watch the race, etc.  Is anybody interested in carrying on this tradition?

6) It sounds like Kendra Deppe's pre-PG Tri pasta party got cancelled due to lack of interest.  I realize it may be due to the race prep etc., but we discussed participation and available get togethers before and yes it is difficult...

7) I would like to have a table at the next new student orientation.  Would anybody be able to help out?

8) Do we need to have another meeting?

Finally, keep training and good luck to those at the upcoming races!!!

Very respectfully,
Michael

Subject: M2T2 Update

Good morning all,
Here is a quick update.  We did have a second meeting and only two people from the first meeting showed up, but three new people joined us.  We received a check from Tri-Cal for $100, which brings our MWR account up to about $750.

LT Deppe has contacted several bike shops and will be preparing a letter to them (we are currently waiting on a copy of the original charter from MWR) for future discounts.  She also spoke with DeSoto who is giving us the standard team discount as before.

I realize some of you are concerned about the following items:
  • A group training schedule to be posted online and possibly at MBAC
    • If EVERYBODY will forward me the dates and times of regularly scheduled swim/bike/runs I can put this together
    • The M2T2 web guru will have to figure out how to get in inserted into the site
  • A group get together and membership party
    • This was discussed previously
    • I think it is a good idea to do it prior to PG, however I am right in the midst of CPO (E-7) initiation and several other projects and cannot devote any time to organizing it
    • Somebody needs to take charge of this if it is going to happen
  • Website
    • The Yahoo thing may work, but  we need a site on the NPS.edu club pages
    • Todd Wyatt and Marsha Norlock at NPS may be able to help
    • Somebody needs to take charge of this if it is going to happen
  • Membership
    • There will be a new student orientation the third week of September where we can have a table
    • We need to contact DLI, FNMOC, Coast Guard, etc.
    • A complete list needs to be submitted to MWR as soon as possible
  • Formal meetings
    • I think we need to have a formal meeting monthly
    • I would like to schedule it according to NPS students schedules
    • Do we want to have guest speakers, etc.
  • Clothing, etc.
    • What's the consensus on this?
    • If the club wants to ordert stuff, then somebody needs to take charge (LT Deppe would be the likely candidate since she's working with sponsors, etc.)
As I said bfore, I can act as the main POC for many of these, but instead of sending out e-mails (I am as guilty as everybody), we need to start taking action.  As they say, "When all is said and done, usually more is said than is done."

Please forward this to anybody you know who may be interested.  If you are ready to step forward and take on one of these challenges let me (and the group) know.  Thanks and happy training!

Concur with Ray's comments. I too am in PG triathlon and would enjoy getting together with everyone since Wildflower.

    All,
     What's the latest with M2T2?  Are there going to be any more organizational meetings?  When is the BBQ / new member bash that we spoke about?

      I saw that two people (Jacqueline Chang & Ed Disporten?) have written expressing interest in helping to rebuild the team.  As far as I know, noone responded to there emails.  What's more, the M2T2 newsgroup has been receiving spam emails!!!  This is truly a sad state of affairs.

      I know everyone is busy, but we need to try to keep stuff happening or people will lose interest and assume we've folded... which right now it looks like we have.  I don't mean to harass anyone, especially since I graduate in 6 weeks, but it would just be nice to know that the team will keep going.

      Just a thought: the PG Tri is just 4 weeks away... a perfect opportunity to revive the team and connect with new members.

    Respectfully,
    Ray Munoz
