RE: Monterey Peninsula Triathlon Club Affiliation

All-

I will be in the Trident Room at 1500 on Tuesday, and one of the officers of
MPTC is going to come along so we can discuss possibilities for the clubs.

I hope some others show up, looking forward to meeting you all!

Mindy

Mindy,
That sounds like a great idea. I've heard rumblings of MPTC starting up
recently, but haven't looked into it as M2T2 was our bag. I think it would be
great to get the two groups together for the reasons you mentioned. Plus, it
would yet another opportunity for the military and civilian communities to come
together around common interests.

JOC Martin- does that sound like a good sound bite for the PAO?

Obviously, there were prior commitments for todays meeting, but perhaps we can
try again next Tuesday, July 20th at 1500, Trident Room. I haven't heard of an
SGL yet so hopefully the time will remain open for most of us. If anyone has a
better idea give a shout out.

Semper Tri,
Grinch

All-

I'm sure very few of you know me, but I am a civilian working at NPS and I am
involved with both the Monterey Peninsula Tri Club and the Velo Club of Monterey
outside NPS.

I have been thinking about NPS' tri club and how to make it more cohesive from
year to year. With the transient population at NPS, I would think it would be
difficult to keep the group together.

I was wondering if there would be any interest in becoming affiliated with the
Monterey Peninsula Tri Club in any manner. Possibly have a military subsection
of MPTC or something of the sort? That might make it easier to keep the
administrative type tasks under control, but still have a unique NPS identity.

I haven't discussed this topic with the Powers that Be of MPTC, but if there is
interest from M2T2 I could bring it up.

Let me know what you all think, and let me know when you will be holding a
meeting.

Thanks,

Mindy Surratt

To All,
I realize I may not be well-known within M2T2, but I was the one who was
volunteered to take over by Keith and Norm (forgive the informality, but that is
how they asked to be referred to?). Due to numerous events the past 6-9 months
I was not able to fulfill the expectations as they had desired. As much as I
would like to, I don't foresee it getting any better, probably worse.

A couple of things though, I have taken over as editor of the Velo Club
Monterey's newsletter; and due to my position in the PAO office, I would like to
offer my services as the club's PR/Marketing person. I feel I can take on this
and still not get too overwhelmed with other committments.

Please let me know if and when the meeting will take place.

Very respectfully,
JOC Michael Martin
NPS Deputy PAO

Gents,
Sorry it took so long to respond... I'm tied up tommorow and will not be able
to make it to the Trident room. Let me know if you decide to press forward with
the meeting. If not, we can move it to next Tues, same time, same place... I
think the idea of meeting in the Trident room is great!

Gary,

I am tied up all day Monday and Tuesday. I do not need to be the common
denominator so go ahead and let me know.

Sounds good.

How about Tuesday at 1500 at the Trident Room. We don't have an SGL
this week so it should be an open time for all.

Ray and Bill,
If you guys want I can get a message out on the check in page. Let me
know soon to get the lead time. Thanks, Gary

I think that the only way for us to ensure the continuity of the
team would be for us to get together and sort out positions within the
team. Training together and getting together for races is great, but
without people taking care of the administration of the team, it would
only be a matter of time before the team went away. At the very least
we need someone to act as the team coordinator (President?.. Admin
Person?), and someone to act as the benefits coordinator (bike shop /
race entry / race gear discounts)... Our predecessors had great
relationships with DeSoto, TriCal, and local bike shops, and we need to
keep these relationships going.

Is anyone interested in meeting for the purpose of discussing
and nominating / volunteering themselves for team roles? We can also
discuss the future direction of the team and anything we might want to
change about the team in the future (E=M2T2?)...

Respectfully,
Ray Munoz

I just got my bike back in one piece finally from the
crash at the mid point of Wildflower, so I have had plenty of time to
recover.

I agree with you and Ray that it would be aa shame if
M2T2 did not continue. I don't really have any great ideas other than
let's keep each other informed of what training we are doing and maybe
we can jump in with each other for training and events. Car pool and
that sort of thing.

I am entered in:
-Wharf to Wharf on Sunday, July 25.
-PG olymipic- I think I will get a hotel room across the
street if I can. Any sprinters would be welcome to hang out there until
the very late sprint start time.
-Thinking about Tinley 1-2 October.
-Muddy Buddy in San Jose 24 October.

Ray, I may be in my last quarter too with a full
load. Stop by my office if you get a chance and we can work out a plan.

Gary, How is your recovery going?

Same here,
I'd be interested in getting the team
going again and many people have expressed interest to me on this as
well. I'm in my final quarter, and in the middle of a thesis crunch,
but I think it would be a shame to let the team go away.

Let's keep training for PG.

All,

The folks who held leader positions in
the club (pres., secr,
admin,

ops, etc) have all graduated and I do
not believe anyone holds
these

positions at the present. Keith Olson
had a few boxes of medals
and

other stuff that had been donated to
the team for conducting an

annual duathlon and other triathlon
events. First, does anyone
have

a suggestion for what to do with these
items and secondly, would

anyone be interested in heading up
this club and getting it
running

again? Thanks.

Bubba Lewis
