World champions rejoin Italy squad
Monday, 2 October 2006ACF Fiorentina striker Toni, who has scored nine goals in 24 appearances for his country, has not been selected since the Azzurri's victory in the 2006 FIFA World Cup final against France. Del Piero, who is currently playing in Serie B with Juventus, has also been called up for the first time since the match in Berlin.
Two other Juventus players are included in the squad, goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and midfielder Mauro Camoranesi. Meanwhile Donadoni omitted forwards Antonio Cassano and Alberto Gilardino, who both played in Italy's first two Group B qualifying games - a 1-1 draw against Lithuania and a 3-1 defeat France. Italy play Ukraine in Rome on 7 October and Georgia in Tbilisi four days later.
Goalkeepers: Christian Abbiati (Torino FC), Marco Amelia (AS Livorno Calcio), Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus).
