I realize you addressed this message to BJ, but buying regos is time-sensitive. I don't know how long it will take him to respond. Buying discounted regos from people who can't use them is common practice in the Hash world-wide. You're correct that it only covers the hash activities and goodies. If you're interested then I would recommend that you call Sparkle ASAP before someone else snatches that rego up. Since there's also a 5K/10K that weekend, you may want to get on finding a room at the Arlington quickly as well. Try to see if you can get a room on the level where the hot tub is. That may not be the floor the Hashpitaility Suite is on (or it could be), but I guarantee that the Hash will take over the hot tub at some point. When that happens, your room will be conveniently located just down the hall.

If the the Arlington is full then try the Happy Hollow Motel. It's within a five-minute walk of the Arlington just down a side street. The rooms are clean and inexpensive. We always stay there for the Thursday night pre-Clearfork pub crawl.

Don't forget your red dress.

I hope everyone has their red dress ready for this weekend. We will need some help this weekend, with tasks like setting the pub crawl, setting the red dress run and setting the Sunday run. And of course, we will always need help with getting ice and buying supplies. (Remember, I only have one arm.) All voluneers appreciated.

    Hand Tossed Poop,

Consider, just consider putting a thin pad under the heel portion in all of both your running and walking around shoes.  If you don't have enough pads, move them from shoe to shoe as you change shoes.  I used Spenco heel pads in my bad achilles days.  Even a very thin pad may give you huge relief.  Do not become physically reliant on the pads - wean yourself off them by stretching the bottoms of your feet and calves many times each day - relieves pressure on the achilles.  The pads work, generally, because they mechanically 'shorten' the achilles, relieving stretching stress.

I've got some old Spenco heel pads you can try if you wish but I won't see your prodigious ass until this weekend to give them to you.  You can also cut the heel off the insert from some old running shoes and add that thickness to the heels of your current shoes by putting those pieces under the shoe's full insert.

Achilles can be an achilles issue and/or an achilles sheath inflammation issue.  If the achilles is the problem, do the mechanical stuff;  if a sheath problem do Vitamin I (ibuprofen - 600mg min; don't overdo Vit I or you'll get kidney problems).  Try one then the other and then, if no relief, try both.  I'd try the pads alone first.

As you know the 5K is flat and the 10K has the hill - bad achilles'es do not like hills, making the 5K the preferred option with a bad wheel.

Hey guys,

For those that don't know, my Dad had a heart attack around the 2nd. I flew in on the 4th and my sister picked me up, but she had to go back to Mississippi after Dad's surgery due to having her own surgery. My Mom has two sleep disorders and doesn't drive. Dad is out, doing well and doing physical therapy in DeWitt. UTA is coming through either Thursday or Friday to get me for Thanksgiving. I was thinking it might be cool to visit some of my Little Rock buddies, but the down side is that I have no way to get there. I'll be working during the week days from my laptop so if anybody has crash space, then all I'll need is a little table to put my laptop and an outlet to plug it in. I might have someone set to come get me sometime Sunday (she has something going on Saturday), but she can't bring me back to DeWitt. DeWitt is about an hour and half away from Little Rock. I know that is asking a lot, but of course I would be paying for gas. Any takers? If not, no sweat.

Hey again,

I've gotten quite a few offers for crash space, to come pick me up AND bring me back (you guys really rock!), but . . . it looks like I'll be staying in the big metropolis of DeWitt. My Mom has decided to take on some projects around the house while Dad is at physical therapy and I would not feel good about her doing them by herself. So maybe UTA and I will see some of you at Hashfest. We haven't signed up yet, but depending on what happens here we might make it.

(Polk, Louisiana) I was a young Private in the 82nd Airborne Division. My Brigade was on its periodic training junket to Ft. Polk. One of the many items stressed at briefings before a training mission of this proportion is the fact that there are a lot of untrained people running about the area, at all times of day and night, in all kinds of vehicles, most of them quite large.

During the training we were reminded, when sleeping in the woods at night be sure to sleep at the base of a large tree. Drivers may or may not be wearing night vision equipment, and may or may not be familiar with the roads. Sleep next to a tree and you insure that you will wake up in the morning. Even the most misguided driver will avoid a large tree, thus ensuring your own safety.

This reminder was repeated in light of recent events. An Army Major had been assigned to our unit as an Observer Controller, and one night he decided to bed down on what he deemed was an unused old trail. Perhaps the driver took a wrong turn in the darkness, or perhaps he took a shortcut from point A to point B, but somehow he found himself on a road with a few disconcerting bumps. He continued to drive on.

A young private assigned as the Major's radio operator roused himself from sleep--at the base of a large tree several feet from the trail--to discover the body of his charge. That one decision took the life of the Major, a man with a college degree, a commision from Congress, and years of responsibilities, including reminding trainees to sleep away from roads.

He was pronounced DRT (Dead Right There).
