Think you can't run 26.2 miles? Think again!
Registration is now open for five-person relay teams
The Kentucky Derby Festival is pleased to announce the addition of
Marathon Relay Teams to the 2005 Meijer Derby Festival Marathon. The new
division offers a chance for five-person relay teams to cover the
marathon distance of 26.2 miles.
"The relay is designed to give families, running club members,
corporation employees and groups of friends the chance to enjoy being
part of the marathon by assembling a team of five," said Mark Perry, KDF
Event Manager. "We hope it will bring support to the races from people
who can't run the whole marathon or half-marathon distance by
themselves."
Marathon Relay Teams can be all-male, all-female or co-ed teams. The
marathon route will be divided into two 10-kilometer segments, two
5-kilometer segments and one 12.2-kilometer segment. To find out more
information about the Relay Teams, or to register a team online, log on
to the Meijer Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon website at
www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com.
The fourth annual Meijer Derby Festival Marathon will be held in
conjunction with the 32nd annual Meijer Derby Festival miniMarathon,
starting at 7:30 a.m. near Iroquois Park. Marathon runners will follow
the same course as the "mini" for the first 11 miles. The 26.2-mile
Marathon course will continue through the Cherokee Park and the Highlands
neighborhood, sharing the same finish line at Sixth and Market streets.
The scenic route will include sections of two city parks designed by the
esteemed Frederick Law Olmsted, historic Churchill Downs, Louisville's
newly developed waterfront and several eclectic neighborhoods.
Participants may also register for the Meijer Derby Festival miniMarathon
or Marathon online at www.derbyfestivalmarathon.com.
