One thing is RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation)
is always the first thing for an injury NOT heat.
Then plan strengthing and stretching for the muscle in
question. If it continues to plague you, check the
age of your shoes and make sure you aren't running on
a slanted surface, etc. If it still continues, you
may want to see a podiatrist in case you have uneven
legs, etc. Also, did you get your shoes at a good
shoe store. You may have the wrong kind of shoes for
your feet. Also, increase mileage and speed slowly in
the spring. Check out a running book by a good coach
(not a novice who has just written a book) to see
their advice for any specific injury you have. I'm
not a doctor and so any advice I give is not specific
to your problem, but just a general discussion (i.e.
use at your own risk - standard disclaimer). Good
luck! Margaret
