Long Beach State strengthens hold on No. 1
ARLINGTON, Va. - Top-ranked Long Beach State solidified its hold on No. 1,
picking up 23 more first-place votes than it had a week ago. Second-ranked
Nebraska, which dropped to No. 2 last week despite receiving one more
first-place vote than the 49ers, saw its total votes for No. 1 drop from 33
to 10.
Long Beach State (11-0) received 1,615 points to Nebraska's 1,567. Last
week, Long Beach State led the Cornhuskers (13-1) by just three points in
the voting. The 49ers handed Nebraska its only loss earlier this season.
Elsewhere, none of the top seven teams changed places, with USC, Stanford,
UCLA Wisconsin and Arizona holding down spots No. 3 through No. 7. No team
moved more than three places up or down in the rankings. No. 25 Kansas State
dropped out of the poll and was replaced by Colorado (9-4), which came in at
No. 23.
