2001 AAU Junior Beach Volleyball National Tour to
Open Season in Hawaii

The 2001 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Beach Volleyball
Tour, the premier youth beach volleyball tour in the world, will open
its season with a GRAND SLAM event at the World Ocean Games in Honolulu, HI.
The Paul Mitchell Junior Hawaiian Championships will be played on May 26
and 27 on Queens Beach, Waikiki, 9:00am to 3:00pm each day.

University of Hawaii head womens volleyball coach Dave Shoji is
among the local volleyball leaders that have lent their support to
building this tournament. Over 50 two person teams, boys and girls ages 10
to 18, are expected to participate. A free clinic for all junior players
will take place at the site Friday, May 25, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

The 2001 AAU Beach Tour includes 14 stops in seven states,
revolving around four GRAND SLAM events: Honolulu, HI at the World
Ocean Games (May 26-27), South Beach, FL for the Miami Beach Open (July 1),
Hermosa Beach, CA for the National Championships (July 14-15) and in
Manhattan Beach, CA for the AAU/AVP Tour Championships (August 26).

Zone championships will take place in Manhattan Beach, CA (West),
Chicago, IL (Central), New Orleans, LA (South) and Pt. Pleasant, NJ
(East). Winners of the Zone Tournaments qualify for the TOUR
CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The AAU Beach Tour regularly draws over 120 teams (240
participants) in Southern California markets, and the tour normally
draws between 50 and 75 teams outside Southern California. In all, the AAU
Tour averages over 1500 participants per year, with wide exposure to fans
through high profile locations and participation in large events (i.e. World
Ocean Games in Hawaii, Mervyn's Beach Bash in California).

The Amateur Athletic Union (www.aausports.org), founded in 1888,
is the sanctioning body of the AAU Beach Tour. The AAU is a Disney
partner headquartered in Orlando, FL. Offering 34 sports to over
500,000 athletes, the AAU provides support through the national office
and through volunteers across the country. The AAU Beach Volleyball
program began in 1994 with one 16 team tournament in San Pedro, CA. It has
since grown into a national tour with 14 tournaments in seven
states, and will expand to international markets in 2002.
