Hi! my name is Linda. I was a huge Adam Petty fan.
I was very excited when he made his Cup debut at
Texas. I think I cried for a month when he died. I
hope his dad can win a Cup race this year. If he does
I'm still gonna cry. Anyway it is nice to meet everybody!

NASCAR legend Buck Baker dies
By DAVID POOLE
Buck Baker, born Elzie Wylie Baker on March 4, 1919, in Richburg,
S.C., won the 1956 NASCAR championship with car owner Carl
Kiekhaefer for one of the first multicar teams in NASCAR history.
Buck Baker came back to win the 1957 title for car owner Bud Moore,
becoming the first driver to ever win consecutive titles. He also
finished second in the standings in 1955 and 1958.
Buck Baker entered 636 races as a driver, beginning with the very
first race held in NASCAR's "strictly stock" series held in
Charlotte in 1949. That's the series now known as Winston Cup.
Thirteen of his victories came in cars Baker owned – he was listed
as car owner in more than 500 races.

Buck Baker: The Passing of Another Legend
by Ellen Nordvig
Buck Baker passed away late Sunday, and with him passed part of the
history of NASCAR. Buck participated in NASCAR's Inaugural Race and
was part of a legendary group the likes of which we will never see
again.
Born Elzie Wylie Baker, "Buck" was father of Elzie Wylie Baker, Jr.
known to most as the legendary, "Buddy" Baker. While Buddy's name
may sound familiar to today's fan, how many, I wonder, know of the
accomplishments of his racing father. Buck's name is associated
with, of course, The Buck Baker Racing School that bears his name
and for good reason.

something. The drivers listed are just some that I have

limiting it to those names.<br><br>"Rules For
Submitions"<br><br>Very easy: <br>No pics of the accidents. I think we've
all seen enough of them.<br><br>At this point only
NASCAR sanctioned drivers are accepted. But if there is
popular demand... scartch that... ANY racer from any
area. But keep it to drivers that are working toward
NASCAR licensing. Let's give the "no-namers" some
recognition.<br><br>That's it. Thanks all.

Just joined and posted a couple of pictures of
Alan Kulwicki. He was my favorite driver and I still
can remember the day I learned he had died. It was
like a piece of me left that day. For years I watched
Nascar, but it was never the same until....Kenny Irwin.
Followed him for about two years and you can imagine my
horror when my sister called me to tell me he had been
killed. I sometimes think I'm jinxed.

Sunday, February 18th, was indeed a black day in
the history of stock car racing. Everyone who was a
fan of NASCAR, whether they liked him or not, knew
the name Earnhardt. He has accomplished so much both
on and off the track that for years to come,
everyone will still remember the legend of Dale
Earnhardt.<br><br>I, myself, am a big Adam Petty fan (as well as a
Dale Earnhardt Jr fan) and know exactly how every fan
of the Intimidator must feel right about now: shock,
disbelief, sadness, anger, and frustration. Why Dale? Why
did this have to happen?<br><br>No one knew before
the race that the interview he did would be his last.
No one knew when the race began that it would end in
such tragedy. No one knew when Dale got in his car
that it would be the last time we would ever see the
number 3 in all its glory. <br><br>It's hard when
another driver is taken from us so<br>abruptly. It's even
more difficult when it was your favorite driver.
Heroe's aren't suppose to die; yet on the final lap of
the Daytona 500 one special one did.<br><br>From
experiencing these same emotions less than a year ago, all I
can tell everyone is that in time the anger and
frustration does subside, but the emptiness and pain will
always be with you. With the help of each other and with
strength from God we can and will get through this, yet
again.<br><br>I believe every fan of NASCAR will hold a special
place in their hearts for a man they called the
Intimidator. He was the enemy to some, the hero to many, and
the legend to all.<br><br>Goodbye Dale. As you can
see from your seat next to your fellow racing
companions in Heaven, you are deeply missed. Thank you for
the great memories, the exciting finishes, the
memorable interviews and the legacy in which fans, friends,
and future drivers of the sport will remember you by.
Indeed, you will live on in each and every one of us whom
you've touched over the years and all will hold a
special place in their hearts for the legendary "man in
black" known as the "Intimidator."<br><br>PS: Please
tell Adam I said hi.<br><br>VickyLynn Allen

Roper, a second-generation driver, was the son of
southwest Missouri racing legend Dean Roper. Roper started
driving in 1986. For the next six years he learned his
craft in IMCA Modifieds and late models on Midwest dirt
and asphalt tracks. He scored numerous wins in both
IMCA and late models on the asphalt tracks. In 1992
Tony moved to the ASA circuit. In 1992, he was the
runner up finisher in the American Speed Association's
rookie-of-the-year race.<br><br>At the end of the 1996 Roper joined
forces with Brevak Racing to drive the team's primary
entry on<br>the NCTS circuit. <br><br>Tony drove for
two teams in 1998 and completed his second full
season 16th in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point
standings & Roper began the campaign in Shelly Brevak's
Concor Tool & Machine Ford, then moved to the Gloy-Rahal
Ford following the early-June race at Texas Motor
Speedway & Roper's best career finish was recorded in the
latter ride, a second-place at Indianapolis Raceway Park
& that finish remains his only career top-five.
<br><br>In early 1999, he signed with the IWX Motor Freight
Xpress Motorsports Pontiac Team for a partial schedule
in the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division.
He made his BGN debut at Darlington on March 20,
1999. In April he was selected to drive full-time for
the remainder of the year. He drove for Xpress
through August before leaving the team to explore other
options.<br><br>In late 1999 he signed a two year contract with
Washington Erving Motorsports to pilot the #50 Dr<br>Pepper
Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The team struggled early in 2000 and
was finally forced out of<br>business because of
financial problems.<br><br>Late in 2000, he agreed to drive
for the #26 Mittler Brothers Ford in the Craftsman
Truck Series. On October 13, 2000 he was critically
injured in a wreck at Texas Motor Speedway. He died the
next day.<br><br>He is buried at Mt. Comfort Cemetery,
just a few miles from where he grew
up.<br><br><a href=http://www.tonyroper.com/information/bio.htm
