One pole every five starts: Ryan Newman won his sixth pole of the season, tied
for tops in the Nextel Cup Series with Jeff Gordon, and won his fourth Charlotte
pole with a track record. Dodge swept the top three qualifying spots as rookie
Kasey Kahne earned his eight front-row start of the season, and Busch
pole-sitter Casey Mears will start on the inside of Row 2. Fourth-place
qualifier, rookie Scott Riggs, was the top Chevrolet, and Elliott Sadler was the
top Ford, rounding out the top five.
