There is about 5 to 6 new inches of snow (good wet stuff) in the last 5
days. There was somewhat of a base under the new snow, great in spots,
non-existent in others, so the amount of coverage varies. In general,
the depth is adequate about half-way into the system, but there will be
numerous objects to avoid until the upper sections, where the conditions
are consistently better. The early sections will be thin in spots, so if
you're skiing, be careful. It is advisable to hike up with snowshoes
until you're comfortable enough with the coverage to put on your xc skis.
As of Friday, the trails have a one-pass packing on them, with the newest
snow yet to be packed. Our main grooming snowmobile broke down (again)
Tuesday evening, and will not be back on-line until later Saturday
(hopefully). Dave Wykoff (owner of a newly rebuilt small "snowcat") is
planning on finishing up the grooming late Saturday also.
There is the possibility of some ungroomed, early season-conditions
skiing now, but be mindful of the usual thin spots. One more storm
should put the trails in decent ski shape.
Signs will be posted this weekend asking the public to respect the
cross-country skiing only designation on the upper trails, with the lower
trails groomed for all uses.
I'll post an update tomorrow evening to let everyone know the status of
the work planned for tomorrow.
Thanks,
Clay Moseley
