Donna and I drove up today and skiied [skate and classic] at Enchanted
Forest above Red River. Given the serious drouth we are in here in NM, the
conditions were very good---22 degrees mid-day and almost everything groomed
except the double black diamonds.
Classic tracks were set everywhere [ie: not just skating]---the occasional
small bare spot or root sticking thru, but nothing that would force you to
ski on yr rock skiis...classic wax was something colder than VF40 [guess
what I had on--VF40, too much kick!].
Skating lanes weren't perfectly smooth and flat, but given the fairly
shallow groomed base, say around 6", I was impressed at how well Geoff had
done getting a skiable trail put in there.
We were up there because of the winds---it had seemed like a BAD day for a
bikeride so we bailed on the SFRoadrider outing, but skiing up there, and
the wind wasn't bad at all.
1st time back on snow for us since xmas holiday, was good to be on the
boards again!
