Finally spent a full day grooming all of the wet snow that we've received
over the last several days. The trail is still in need of a few finish
passes, as every trip over it packs down a few inches. Ken Kisiel got
started with a couple of passes, but a minor mechanical in the Hulk and a
heavily drifted meadow slowed his progress.
The entire system (minus cut-offs) was packed, bladed, and then groomed
for both skate and classic yesterday (Sunday, 2/13/05). Six trips over
the whole system, plus some necessary digging and packing out in the
meadow...
The snow was warm and wet in places, and yesterday was a warm, sunny day.
Some of it will probably ice up pretty quickly -- other places will be
very nice until the next storm; as usual, it will vary from top to
bottom, sun to shade. No chance in recovering the "powder maker" rollers
now -- they're completely buried under *feet* of snow.
The classic tracks should be very nice. I got two much bigger weights
from Enchanted Forest. They are the original weights used for the track
setters. You can see the round rust marks on the track sleds. These
should work nicely for both ice busting and track setting in firm
conditions (80 lbs apiece!).
