Come try one of the most fun, challenging and popular winter sports
around the world: Cross Country Skiing and/or Snowshoeing! The Los
Alamos Triatomics Multisport and Southwest Nordic Ski Club (formerly
Los Alamos Nordic Club) presents the New Year's Resolution Cross
Country Ski and Snowshoe Event
at the Pajarito Nordic Ski Trail system located at the Canada Bonito
trailhead (FS Trail 282). The event will consist of a 10km freestyle
(classic or skate) cross-country ski loop, where all skiers will
finish before the snowshoe event takes place. Following the ski
race, there will be a 5km snowshoe loop event afterward. You can
choose to do one or the other, or both for a special prize. There
will be prizes for all categories following the race.
Details:
The event is scheduled for Sunday, January 2, 2005 – first skier off
at 10:00 A.M., in an individual start format with 30 seconds between
skiers. Skiers will be seeded according to registration order. If
you feel like you would rather be placed later in the start order, we
will try to accommodate your request (based on ability).
The Pajarito Nordic Trail system begins just beyond the far end of
the Pajarito Ski Area parking lot, accessed via the ski hill road
(also called Camp May road). There is a National Forest Service
Trailhead sign marking the location. Staging will be held at this
location. Registration will be located inside the Pajarito Ski
Lodge. Registration will begin at 8:00 A.M., and will cost $15 per
event, or both events for $20 (a portion of this is to benefit the
SWNSC volunteer trail and grooming efforts).
