So, we got a nice snow storm over the weekend of April 10, 11, 2004.
I had a solid 8" of wet snow at my house on Easter morning. I heard
some folks had upwards of 10", but I think that was up higher. There
was about 15" new overnight up at the Nordic trails, with about 30"+
over the last week and a half. There were places where the winter
snow was still very deep, right next to complete burnouts. It caused
a lot of huge "humps" that were fun to ski over. I skied everywhere -
- including out in the middle of the meadow. My dog was wiped out
afterward!
I just couldn't resist going up on my backcountry skis after having
done a bike race the day before in Albuquerque. It was
actually "winter-cold" up there, and I actually had a water bottle
start freezing up on me.
There are a lot of trees down, and I had to practice
my "Galendehsprung" technique to jump over them. We'll have some
worn-out chainsaws this fall, for sure!
