I am planning a Saturday morning hike from the Vivian Creek Trailhead
to the top of San Gorgonia this Saturday. If you are interested in
going please let me know asap as I will be getting wilderness permits
for the group tomorrow afternoon and Friday if need be. This is a 17
mile round trip hike from about 6,600 feet to 11,500 feet in
elevation. It will be hot so I am hoping to start the hike no later
than 6 a.m. meaning we should leave the parking lot at Stewart and
Anderson Street by 5:15 a.m. You will need to bring plenty of fluids
and or a pump action filtration system. There will be limited water
available for filtering. Try and keep you pack weighing less than 25
pounds as the more weight you carry the harder it will be on your
body. A 150 pound person will probably use up about 3,000 calories
as this is a pretty intense hike. Bring plenty of snacks to refuel
yourself along the way. The
temperature at the summit will probably
be between 60 and 70 degrees but could be colder but probably not
warmer. There may be some who do not wish to go all the way to the
summit and this is fine. You do not have to commit to going the
whole way up.
