Big boy at play... Very expensive hobby...
But I still cannot figure out the main objective..
Must be very tiring on the legs?
If can get to aero position but with small wheels?

Guess I'm still new to cycling;)

Perhaps you might want to consider installing a Shimano DA electronic shifter at the rear with the wireless control on the handlebar, therefore no wires needed ? That will make it non-singlespeed !

Hmm... this is what I call a "Fun Bike".. as it is not fast... and if I do get to do the OCBC "race" next year... this will be the bike I am using... just for the FUN of it!..

and.. the drop bar is there so that I no longer sit up right!.... *notice the saddle is higher than the drop bar!... would be quite difficult to sit upright in this setting! :-)

Not really.  It’s 36km if you are early and do a detour to Newton Circus before returning LH.

That is, if you go via the Sembawang Hill route.  Otherwise that will be 35km if you go by Upper Seletar reservoir way.

If you are interested in riding in Sweden, there is a famous ride which happens every June with tenth and thousands of participant cycling around the beautiful lake... that's one of my dream too! check this out!.. they now have similar in China too (search within the website!) http://www.cyklavaettern.com/Default.aspx?module=4&content=70&lang=SV&fwsite=2

and about cycling in Sweden, check this out... and if you prefer to spend on air tickets rather than beautiful bikes, then it is very nice to cycle there! The whole country is like a garden! http://www.cycletourer.co.uk/cycletouring/sweden.shtml

Hello guys,

Just a little updates... as you may know, I really envy you guys who can cycle as much as you want on any day while here in Shanghai, to be able to do a good ride would be a real luxury! especially now the usual route where we cycle has turned into a highway and we are prohibited to ride on it anymore!  :-(

Anyway, I was in Sweden last week, the whole of the week was cold, wet and snow... but I was really glad that on Saturday when I have time to do things I enjoy, cycling of course!.. what else!? :-).. the weather was almost perfect, sunshine but temperature was about 4~9 degrees!

Helsingborg to Malmo is going South there was moderate Northern winds.. so head wind all the way, and with heavy bike, it took a lot of energy for the 80 kms ride! But still, really enjoyed and appreciated the rare opportunity greatly!

The bike belong to my boss, it was not so ideal for me cos he is about 1.9m and one side of the brake was touching the rim.. so with the heavy weight of the bike, it was really a "training" ride! but I donch mind! :-)

When I said I wanted to do the route, my boss and few others asked me not to do it as it is very tricky route since I should avoid all the main roads/ highways etc, and no one actually know exactly how to get there on bike since few or no one ever done that!..

They did not know that when they tried to discourage me.. it trigger my challenging mode! haha... sounds familiar?!

So, with the map and a lot of asking around.. I prove them wrong! haha! However, asking direction is really tricky.. there was once I was almost sure of a direction, and has been going on for some distance, then I saw someone that I can ask (actually very few people to ask since few walk on the streets as population in Sweden is small, and the country is very big!), and he gave me a direction that leads to reverse of many kms backward!... I was stuck and stand still for awhile as I was really reluctant to go back the same way I came from... so I decided to go on not taking his advise.... when I saw the next person some kms further and asked.. I found out that it is actually possible to go on with some twist n turns etc... glad to have a little wisdom on that otherwise... extra mileage and climbs! :-)

Congratulations to Pocket Rocket Mika, Iron Johnson and their team mate from MR25, Christian Stauffer for being the 2nd team  and 29th Overall in 43hrs 2mins 55secs for Racing the Planet – Sahara 2009.

The Sahara Race is a six-day, 250-kilometer footrace. Each individual must also carry his or her own gear, food and clothing in a backpack. The only assistance provided is water (plenty), tents and medical assistance. The average backpack weighs about 20 pounds (9 kilos).  www.4deserts.com/sahararace

Welcome back and come celebrate your success @ Joyriders Christmas Party on Dec 13!

Dear friends,

Big thanks to you all for your support and kind messages.

We are back from the desert with a lot in our eyes and a 2nd place in Team.

It is the first time that a team from Singapore make it to the podium in Sahara and we are all very happy for that.

It was as usual a fantastic race and we did put a strong fight with the guys in front (I guess a few days more and we will have got them...hahaha).

I am enclosing the RTP last press release on the race and a few pictures.

Looking forward to see you all on the trails...after a well deserved rest.

Team Mixed Bags - RTP Sahara 2009
Mika, Johnson and Christian

Paolo Barghini of Italy Crowned Champion of the Sahara Race 2009

(3 November 2009, Hong Kong).  The 2009 edition of the Sahara Race ended with a fitting climax on Saturday, 31 October at the iconic pyramids of Giza.

Paolo Barghini of Italy snatched a dramatic victory after the long stage also called the “Black Desert March,” which he won in impressive style, running the 90km distance in less than 10 hours. In a race where the lead had already changed twice during the week, Barghini went into the stage in second position with German Tobias Frenz in the lead, Christian Schiester in third place and early favourite Luis Marcos Sivestre of Spain in fourth. Canadian Mehmet Danis, champion of this year's Atacama Crossing, who had dominated the first two stages was lying in fifth position after suffering from stomach problems linked to physical exertion, and was hoping he was recovered enough to push for honours.

Barghini took the lead early in the stage and continued to extend his advantage all through the Black Desert to the final camp at the top of an extinct volcano.

The following pack was gradually strung out along the course as each of them tried to catch the 49 year old from Cararra, Tuscany. Barghini’s performance on the day was a master-class in endurance, producing his best result of the week and leaving his rivals in the dust.

The medical doctor, who typically runs 150km a week, described his overall win as "The happiest day of my sporting life: a great victory of a great race. Now I am looking forward to The Last Desert (Antarctica) in 2010."

In the women’s division Erica Terblanche of South Africa finally succumbed to the exertions of the week when her Iliotibial Band injury was aggravated. Unable to run she finished the final stage with Tobias Frenz and 30-39 age group winner Venetia Price of the UK. "I couldn't have done it without them; I was so tired they had to drag me up the last hill".

Terblanche won the women’s division after a week of seemingly effortless running and finished thirteenth overall. Her nearest rival Teresa Lam of Hong Kong was more than 9 hours behind, who finished just ahead of the third placed woman, Bermuda's Christina Dotson. "I'm so pleased I made it to Egypt, and so surprised and delighted to have won,” said Terblanche. “And I'd like to tell everyone: don't run with your head, don't run with your legs, don't run with you arms, run only with your heart."

Team Trifecta captured a well earned win over Team Mixed Bag.  Trifecta's Michael Hull described it as their best victory, not just because they had completed the 4 Deserts unbeaten, but because Mixed Bag had provided the stiffest competition of their campaign. "They pushed us all the way, and made us work very hard. That was definitely our most difficult race,” said Hull, "that's pretty good!"

Mary Gadams, Founder and CEO of RacingThePlanet said, “Paolo, Erica and Team Trifecta are deserving champions. It has been a pleasure to see them race this week, and share their knowledge and experience with other competitors. This Sahara Race has been notable not only because we have seen five more competitors join the 4 Deserts Club, but also because we now have two new record holders. Jennifer Murray of the UK has, at 69 years old, become the oldest woman to have completed a 4 Deserts event, and James Elson also of the UK has, at 26 years old, become the youngest member of the 4 Deserts Club.  Both are fantastic achievements.”

Of the 120 competitors that started, 95 completed the race crossing the finish line at the Pyramids of Giza to receive their medals. Dee Vadukul of the UK, who had valiantly overcome problems earlier in the week as her body acclimatized to the exertion and heat, finished the race with boyfriend Jeremy Pang in last place. She said, "I'm so proud of what I've achieved. I'm so proud of what everyone here has achieved. I can't believe it’s over and we did it."

Young American competitor George Chmiel, who not only won his age category, and grabbed 5th place overall, was also running in his first multi-day footrace. Appearing humbled by the experience, the usually exuberant 28 year old from Annapolis described the Sahara Race as "life changing" when accepting his award, a sentiment expressed by many of those new to the 4 Deserts in the Sahara Race this year.

Mary Gadams declared the race a huge success. “The race was so exciting – we had three different leaders this week, and the race came down to the wire in the fifth stage. The leading competitors showed true sportsmanship – competitive, but supportive of all the other competitors. At all of RacingThePlanet’s events you see acts of grit, determination and courage as people push themselves way beyond their known limits of physical and mental endurance, and this Sahara Race was no exception. We’ve decided on the location of next year’s race – it will be in the Valley of the Whales, renowned for its fossils and awesome landscapes. We’re already planning and looking forward to it!”

About the 4 Deserts Series:
The 4 Deserts is a series of seven-day, 250-kilometre (150-mile) self-supported footraces across the largest and most forbidding deserts on Earth comprising the Gobi March in China, the Atacama Crossing in Chile, the Sahara Race in Egypt and The Last Desert in Antarctica. Each of the deserts is unique with the 4 Deserts series taking place in the driest, hottest, coldest and windiest places on earth testing competitors’ limits both mentally and physically.  The 4 Deserts series is a world-class sporting event open to anyone who is ready for the journey of a lifetime. Time Magazine recently ranked the 4 Deserts #2 on its list of the world’s top endurance competitions.

34! CAn't imagine those in the front pack led by Stefano. The higher average
must be due to the larger turnout.

Dear Nicky and those interested,

There is a limitation to the ride also.. as day light in Autumn and winter is very short... I have to make sure that I reach destination before it gets dark otherwise really not good to get stranded in nowhere! and have to send out SOS call.. very loose face! haha!

So.. here are few photos taken during the ride..

*I looked a lot fatter than usual cos have 4 layers of clothing on me to keep warm!

*Had lunch in Malmo before taking a train back to Helsingborg.
