oh Joyce....seems you are picking on me sniff sniff cry cry.....

I did wear my jersey on Saturday  (there is evidence hehehehe) but alas the laundry system at home is a bit slow (read I am lazy.....) and since I have only one JR jersey.....

Now, I could have worn the jersey again on sunday but not sure I wish to subject the rest of the peloton to the stench.....I really don't want to be a SmellyRider

Kona

PS. who is the one with the nice smelling aftershave? Drives me wild......ohhhhh!

I spoke to Cheap to Feed Edmund who was the rider with the Pinarello Dogma bike and Alvin Late-gano the rider that was @ the back of him.

The incident was unfortunate as both riders were not aware of each other's intention.  According to Alvin, the car did stop to let cyclist thru and therefore, he did not slow down.  Meanwhile Edmund decided to play it safe and made a stop.  Because it all happened so fast, he did not signal or announce that he was stopping.

Like what we have been expressing that when U guys see lights changing, it is best to SLOW DOWN and do not assume the rider in front of you do not stop OR the car will stop for you either!

Maybe the peloton should be smaller so it is easier for all riders to cross before the lights change.  Personally I also like to say that Cactus Choon Wei's is a very steady & safe rider and he should not feel that it was his fault that this happened today.

Meanwhile the slower 6.40am pack lead by Conman Pascal & Irish Cream Winston had a different story to share.  When we got to Changi village, Pascal was wondering why there's no nagging from Joyce.   The reply"Riders well behaved!"

There was no sweeping allegation on my part. I stayed at the back of
the group for the duration of the ride up to the point when the
accident occurred. That afforded me a vantage point to survey the
entire group which was unavailable to anyone at or near the front.
Anyone is free to dispute my account of the unfortunate incident and

my initial post. However, for corroborative purposes, it
would be best if eye-witness accounts come from not just a narrow

Thank you for your efforts. I do not say this lightly, having had some
very close shaves while riding with the 7.00 group.

Nor have I you. I was merely documenting the event.

It is precisely when the pack gets too big (and long) that problems
come up. The head often does not know what the tail is doing. A case
in point: again, I am not finger-pointing but the fact is that I shouted loud
and long
at the pack which was at a distance of approximately 2 - 3 lampposts
away when the crash happened and no one heard me. However, one
Joyrider came back a couple of minutes later for unknown reasons. I'm
sorry I don't know his name but he was a great help for the rest of the ride.

How should the group form "another pack for safety reasons especially
at traffic lights...?" I'm not quite sure what you're getting at.

As many will attest, I am no stranger to shouting and watching out,
weekdays or weekends, and I shall continue to do so as long as I ride
with the group.

Hi everyone,

I was the 4th rider today for the 640 ride and I must protect choonwei as I seriously think he did a very good job in leading the pack today. We were fast but he never at anytime beat a red light. As a matter of fact, each time after the lights he would slow down n maintain course waiting for others.

I have riden several times when CW was leader and he is a good one. Also, I would just like to highlight that safety is paramount in road/group cycling but to be fair to the leaders of any pack, personal judgment and bike handling skills are just as important.

I noticed several times that there are riders out there who tend to demand a 10m radius of safety but have very poor handling skills. This is not acceptable when the pack is riding at such speeds closely together. No ill intentions meant for anyone but just my take on this issue. Cheers!

Hence I am very very shocked to read about what happened. And I have to defend myself and my riders that we did not beat a red light this morning and we are safe riders. Throughout the ride, every time i turn back i see happy faces (ok or so i think! hahaha), so nope, I cannot accept such a sweeping allegation.

When I lead the ride, I lead the riders to safety.

I have nothing against Lawrence, am just defending this morning's ride only.

When the pack gets too long, perhaps thats what could have happened this morning. Maybe someone should just take the lead and form another pack for safety reasons especially at traffic lights concentration areas like Punggol and Pasir Ris.

Every rider has a part to play in safe riding so please remember to watch out, shout out and stay alert! Very very alert - for one down is one too many.

Ride safe...:)

riders. I am in front all the time, till somewhere along coastal.

Hence I am very very shocked to read about what happened. And I have to defend
myself and my riders that we did not beat a red light this morning and we are
safe riders. Throughout the ride, every time i turn back i see happy faces (ok
or so i think! hahaha), so nope, I cannot accept such a sweeping allegation.

When I lead the ride, I lead the riders to safety.

I have nothing against Lawrence, am just defending this morning's ride only.

When the pack gets too long, perhaps thats what could have happened this
morning. Maybe someone should just take the lead and form another pack for
safety reasons especially at traffic lights concentration areas like Punggol and
Pasir Ris.

Every rider has a part to play in safe riding so please remember to watch out,
shout out and stay alert! Very very alert - for one down is one too many.

Ride safe...:)

I am an ex Joy rider but it appears to me that they some want to be tour riders.

Sorry the name Joy Riders is about enjoying your ride and been safe.

Stop this stupidity and ride safe no running red lights

You have a great club but one bad accident and you will find you have no club.

Joyce and Eric choose the name Joy Riders and that’s what it’s about.

You are great athletes and i respect you all but safe riding you do not rule the road.

Good night and God bless you all smooth operator.

It's very nice of you to describe the accident today in such poetic prose.

However, like Murli, I second the naming of the culprits who make our rides dangerous.

Not so much to shame them, but to alert others of thier recklessness.

I for one can't afford to have my bike trashed due to another's "negligence".

Good people,

It is time again for the usual rant on disorderly cycling and bad
behaviour. I'm greatly saddened to note that the Saturday 6.40am group
is starting to exhibit the same maladies which plague the 7.00am
group and which have caused a number of crashes and damage to bikes and
bodies.

Let it be known that the 6.40 group is equally guilty of running red lights and riding in an
unsafe manner. Cyclists who are contemplating a move from the
7.00 group should relinquish any illusion that the 6.40 is a safer
group. Slower, yes, but with the same tendency to become unruly due to
the unavoidable migration of some of the intemperate cyclists who used
to haunt the 7.00 group.

Today's incident occurred at the junction of Pasir Ris Dr 3 and Pasir
Ris Dr 4 (someone please correct me if my recollection is in error).
The lights were already red (again, do correct me if I'm wrong) and
yet the group made a judgement call to go through the junction. As the
group was passing through, the green arrow appeared and a few of the
stragglers at the tail end of the group decided it wasn't a good day
to play Russian roulette with their lives. With commendable good sense, they
stopped. Apparently, there was dissent among the stragglers and the
most gung-ho of them decided to continue his dedication to the purest
pursuit of speed and daring. It was doubly unfortunate that the cyclist in
front of him placed a higher value on his personal well-being. A
collision ensued right smack in the middle of the junction with the
green arrow flashing in both directions and traffic stopping to avoid
adding fatalities to the day's menu.

Thankfully, there was negligible bloodshed. A scraped knee seems to be
the only injury sustained. It's debatable whether there was any loss
of pride. What's not debatable is the grievous loss of an expensive
bike and damage to components. The Joyrider who stopped because
he obeyed traffic rules came away from this morning's ride much
poorer, to the tune of completely writing-off his Pinarello Dogma in addition
to probably wrecking a Campy 11 rear derailleur and badly scratching
his brake lever. It's too bad we weren't able to inspect his carbon
Reynold wheels... All this because he didn't want to run red lights.

Maybe he should have learned to play Russian roulette.

In a situation like this where it seems so obvious where the fault lies, I think we should start naming names. "Name and shame" isn't the point... it's to let people know who to watch out for when riding in the group. I for one woulddefinitely like to know who I should be avoiding!

Fellow JRs,

MTB Chapter's attendance last week steadied at three with guest rider
"Invincible Vincent". The wet morning ride extended to the slippery Butterfly'
roots and ruts which didnt slow down the slick-equipped Vincent who had earlier
sprained his wrist bunny-hopping over the BT railing. Who on earth rides on
slicks at BT, a moist one! But wait till you see his weaving magic - devil on
wheels - a sight to behold. He is sure to make guest appearance in the coming
weeks -- he assured us.

He was the national mtb champ in the 90s. Watch his red slick wheels and you
will know...
