Yep the last marathon in Seattle for this year is the "MS Skate" which is a
small crew of longboarders crashing what was once a blader-only event. Been
doing this one for a few years now. $50 or $55 to sign up at this point
because its in less than 2 weeks! (aug 27)

its a 12 or 25 miler but I'm pretty sure we'll go easier on it this year and
treat it more as a 'ride' than as a 'race' --- we got more guys that want to try
it their first time so we're going to use our Slow Wheels ;-)

details here http://www.ncdsa.com/contest_registration.asp?ContestID=236

that would be great if your buds can make it -- and hope you recover FAST we got
a lot more skatin and maybe even some BC racin before this summers out!!

I agree with that assessment, you could use wedged risers to add or subtract
angle to get the RII's to work with an urban, but for a first board why take all
that on... go simple, and for sure sign up on Silverfish, its a lot easier to
go back and forth on this stuff there...

of course, that last post was just my personal experiences/opinion.

off topic, yo paved wave! it me, sherpa! so whats the dealio on that
one marathon push/pump race for MS? i cant make it because of the
perma bad ankle, but my other two crew members may go and skate in my

ok, the urban assult was designed as a commuter. the
UA turns horribly with r2s. because with r2s (50 deg
plate) mounted on such exteme angles (17deg) the total
comes out to 67deg, meaning when you turn a little
most of your weight will be on the pivot cups, not the
bushings. but when you lean a lot, that weight will
transfer from the pivot cup to the bushings resulting
in an unpredictable two stage turn.

landy UA+r2s=crap turning. landy UA+randal DH trucks=a
little better turning. landy UA+conventional truck
(tracker, core, indy)+a little negative wedging=bueno.

now, the evo. also shares the same hard wedging up
front with negative wedging rear. if you use both r2
baseplates (50) then the front will act squirrly. with
DH plates (35) the rear will feel completely dead. the
best combonation ive found is a r2 50deg plate rear
and DH 35deg plate front.

im assuming that this is your first board, if so stay
away from highly specialized boards like the evo. if
you have a dh board, the only thing it really accels
at is DH. just stick with a beginner board like the s9
pin, gravity hypercarve, or comet voodoo. if you like
using kicktails the gravity diamond tail, earthwind
superglider, or fibreflex 44 kick will suit you just
fine.

The Evo also by Landyachtz, any preference and if so some
reccommendations for city/ town cruising, small hills, and the

Personally I'd go with R150's and white Khiro bushings, or trimmed clear Rakidal
bushings... the narrower 150 will offer a quicker turn. But you can get 180's
to turn with a longer inverted kingpin and one of those softer, more
performance-oriented bushings.

Of course, this is just my opinion ;-)

there's really nothing patently wrong with R180's on an Urban Assault. And a
better choice of bushings can make a huge difference on any setup.

I would try finding a group of people that get together to session, and see if
you can join in, usually people have an extra setup or two if they've been doing
it any length of time, and will let you test out their other rides. (Unless
they're slalom guys riding $400 carbon fiber boards, then you'll probably have

This way at least you'll have some real ride time before you whip out the

Every review is just one more opinion, there's really nothing patently wrong

I am just starting to longboard and need to buy a board.

I want to get a landyachtz and was looking at the urban assault. One
of my friends told me that I should get randall 2 180's. I read a
review that said this wasn't a good setup. Can anyone help, whether I
should look at a different board or get this one.

Oh yeah, I'm looking for a board that I can cruise around in and maybe
ride in some garages.

Thanks
