Alert: Blister Beetle Hay
Judy Millegan's husband bought alfalfa off one of those trucks by the
roadside in Leander a few days ago. The guy was from Oklahoma, but said it
was Kansas hay. She lost two horses and had two big horses who recovered.
[Her vetrinarian](Dr T) was out there and said it was just terrible what
these horses went through. They got a phone number and called the seller ,
who apparently did this here a year or so ago. At first he denied being
there on that day and selling it, but when confronted with a cancelled check
on his OK bank he backpedaled a little and said he wasn't selling it as
horse hay. Judy's vet talked to Texas A&M, and they were aware of a truck
that had gone to Waco, may be the same. (There has also been a report of a
truck in Taylor.) I don't know what can legally be done to stop them, but we
can sure cut into their business and save some horses. Let me know if you
need any more info - o r talk to Judy or her vet, Dr. T.
