Club Members:
A friend of mine, Nancy Higgs, is seeking to sell/find
a home for, Jack, a very special horse. Her daughter
Kelsey, who rides Jack, is moving to Houston to go to
school.
Here is Nancy's message to me:
"Jack is a 13 y.o. (or 14, I'll have to check), 16+
hands thoroughbred, dapple-liver spotted gray gelding.
Tried on the race track briefly. We bought him in '98.
He was being ridden at Westridge at that time, English
hunter-jumper. That is his training. He won reserve
champion at the Centex A show in 2000. He trailers
well, no problems. He is energetic but not not spooky.
No real behavior problems ever.
He is currently at Christie's ShowJumpers on Gregg Ln.
Janet Christie's number is 694-0937.
Jack broke his tibia in May 2001. He was found that
way in the morning after being turned out for the nite
so we assume his buddy accidentally kicked him during
an early morning frolic. This occured at Switch Willo.
He was taken to Elgin. They determined that it was a
"clean" break as in no splintering (which usually
happens), a spiral fracture, that they felt had a
chance of healing with surgery. So, they (Dr. Niblett
and Dr. Hayes) inserted 2 steel rods and about 35-40
screws. He survived surgery and recuperated at Elgin
all summer.
In September 2002, he moved to Janet's place and
rehabbed there from small turn out pens to the open
field. He had a place of continued drainage that was
contributed to by the hardware, so in the Fall, they
removed all of it and he quickly healed. Kelsey
started jumping him shortly thereafter.
He has been doing great except for a recent problem:
We think it was either a cyst of a little piece of
bone chip that was working its way to the surface.
They have not excised anything though, just 2
cortisone injections in it and it seems to be almost
gone and not tender anymore.
Since his injury, he has gotten back to 2 ft jumps."
Nancy's numbers are:
hm 420-8204
wk 305-7103
Nancy's preferences are (in this order):
1. place him with a moderately experienced English
rider through a modest sale.
2. keep him , but move him to a less expensive place,
and share him with another rider.
3. Nancy will entertain all offers and/or possible
solutions.
Nancy would like to get something for him but realizes
the price is affected by his injury history. She pd
$4,000 for him, was offered $17,000 in 2000.
Has been offered $1,500 recently but they want to ride
him western and Nancy really wants him to go to
someone who will ride English and get him back to
his prime.
