It would be fine for you to join the Lone Star Club. If you do join
the Lone Star Club and want our selectors to put you on a team, then
your team would be decided for you before each tournament. It might
turn out the way you planned and it might not. If you do join and want
to play a particular team, then before each tournament when the
selectors ask all the members to commit to the tournament, you need to
make sure you and all the other people you want to play with, do not
commit to play for Lone Star at the tournament, and you would send in
your team to the tournament organizers.

We have this method of selecting teams for tournaments so all our club
members get on a team with club members of a similar strength. You do
always have the option of making your own team and not letting the
selectors put you on a team, and technically if you do that, you won't
be playing for Lone Star at the tournament.
